From The Principal
I know many of you have questions with the decision to move to a hybrid model. I also know many of you are deciding which model will work best your family. Elementary schools will be sending a letter tomorrow with more details about how we will function in a hybrid model and how we will work to follow safety guidelines and protocols. Please be on the look out for that communication via email.
As you know in a hybrid model we will have reduced capacity each day by splitting students in an A/B fashion. Determining A/B days is based on middle and high school siblings and last names based on alphabet. Last names beginning with A-L will attend on A days and last names beginning with M-Z will attend on B days. If students in the same family have different last names, the student at the high school or middle school will be the determining factor, so it is possible to have a student with a last name that starts with M-Z on an A day. In addition we will need to keep our numbers in line with CDC guidance. For these reasons we will not be able to switch students from A day to B day and vice versa.
We are looking forward to seeing our scholars in person and having them in the building! In the coming weeks our staff will be working hard prepping our building and learning a new way of operating to maximize health and safety.
As always it is an honor to serve as the Principal of Sunflower Elementary.

Sunflower Marathon Club 2020-2021 - Virtual Kick Off Wednesday 9/30
Welcome to Marathon Club 2020-2021 at Sunflower! We are very excited to kick-off club virtually while celebrating our 10th Anniversary. For those of you new to Sunflower or Marathon Club, our club provides sustainable fitness opportunities for Sunflower students and their families. The kids will be challenged to achieve a full marathon distance of 26.2 miles when running or walking throughout the school year. Club will officially kick-off Wednesday 9/30, but really kids can run or walk any day of the week. We will cap mileage at 5 miles per week. Examples of activities that would not count towards Marathon Miles - bicycling, swimming, and sports kids are already participating in.
All virtual mileage will be tracked this year by parents using this form:

Once a student has completed a full marathon, they earn a finisher t-shirt, and have their picture posted on the Sunflower Marathon Club Facebook page. For those who run more, we have second, third and forth rewards.
