Panther Strong: January 2022

S-VE Community,

Welcome to 2022, a time when we reflect on the past year, make resolutions, and look forward to new beginnings.

We are starting the New Year off with interviews for the Middle School Principal Position. Although we are sad to see Becca Gentile leave S-VE, we are hopeful our committee of parents, students, staff, administration and BOE will select the best fit for S-VE Middle School.

COVID guidance from NYSDOH and the CDC is everchanging. We are grateful for the opportunity to keep asymptomatic students in school through the Test to Stay program. We ask that you remain flexible and patient with us as we absorb new information from both the Tioga and Chemung County Department of Health. The Department of Health anticipates additional changes to the guidance next week. We will continue to do our best to keep you updated along the way.

As always, please reach out to me through sveinfo@svecsd.org with any comments, questions, concerns, or kudos.

Panther Strong in 2022!

Elementary School

The Elementary School has installed sensory stickers in their hallways! Sensory stickers allow our students to follow guided steps, develop and enhance gross motor skills and get their wiggles out! Pictured below is a tiptoe line, wall push ups and a hopping station; however, there are many other sensory stickers throughout the building. Ask your student what their favorite spot is! Many thanks to our staff and PTO!

Communication

2021-2022 School Year Communications

We hope you are enjoying our Superintendent District E-Newsletters! We will continue to send these electronically the first week of each month to families, staff, and community members that have shared their email addresses with the district. Please encourage those you know to submit their name and email address to sveinfo@svecsd.org to get on this electronic mailing list.

December COVID Update

The District received notification of 26 individuals who tested positive for COVID in December which led to 43 exposures. On December 9th, we implemented an optional Test to Stay (TTS) program. With TTS, those deemed as a close contact to a person that tested positive for COVID can be brought to school to be tested prior to the start of the school day during their quarantine window. Those that test negative are able to resume their academic day. The Test to Stay program has allowed 15 students to remain in school, who would have otherwise been remote learning for the duration of their quarantine. Our nurses performed 42 tests within 9 days to help keep kids in school! Thank you to all involved, especially our nurses and parents!

We will continue to include this information in our monthly Superintendent Newsletter. Among all things COVID related, the CDC COVID Tracker is available on our website. Go to: https://www.svecsd.org/coronavirus.cfm

Mask Reminder

A friendly reminder of universal indoor masking for all students, staff, teachers, and visitors regardless of vaccination status in schools.

Self-Test Reporting

Our Governor identified a statewide goal of having as many students as possible tested for COVID this week. Test kits were sent home on Wednesday with students. Although there is no requirement that families test their children with these test kits, the State is encouraging families to do so. Parents had the option to opt-out of receiving a test kit for their student.

Should you choose to utilize a self-test kit and the result is positive, please follow the guidance from the county in which you reside. County links below:
Tioga County Self-Test Reporting Link
• Chemung County requests that you receive a PCR test
• Schuyler County: call the office on the next business day (607-535-8140)

Vaccination Information

Individuals interested in receiving a vaccination can access all vaccination sites near you by texting their Zip Code to 438829 or go to https://www.vaccines.gov/

Before Winter Break, we partnered with Candor to offer a vaccination clinic in our area, with over 300 vaccines given. The second dose and booster shots will be given this Saturday at Candor! See below!

Digital Equity Survey for Parents/Guardians

Please help us fulfill the requirement of New York State Education Department by completing this Digital Equity Survey for each student in grades Kindergarten – Grade 12. Completing this survey will greatly help our educators to better serve our students and families. If you have not done so yet, please complete this information so we can provide it to the state, which assists in securing financial resources to address limited digital access.

Social Media

You may have heard about social media challenges on the news or on social media platforms. We have done our best to stay on top of these trends and continue to educate our students on appropriate behaviors and taking pride in our school buildings. The Digital Citizenship Newsletter in November featured a piece on Social Media challenges, pictured below.
