2T Community
This week we will focus on caring acts and treating each other with kindness and respect. This will be discussed during our Morning Meeting this week.
Students have been getting into the holiday spirit during our Morning Meeting. Since December 1st we have been counting down the days until Winter Break with our caring chain. We have also been sharing Holiday Fun Facts, Jokes and trivia. We have unwrapped a book for each day in school and shared a holiday story. We also have been singing Holiday songs during our meeting. Students will be learning about Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanza and Los Pasados. Students will also share holiday and family traditions during our meeting.
Literacy
This week, we will find out more about our big idea: “Nature can teach us many things.” We are going to read a realistic fiction story and an informational text that will help us to answer the question “What helps you make decisions about a character?” In The Ugly Vegetables, a girl learns about her neighbors when she plants a garden. We will also see some HUGE plants from real gardens when we read They Really Are GIANT! an informative text that highlights really large veggies and graphic and text features.

Writing Focus:
We will use mentor texts to learn how a review allows a writer to respond to a book in a positive or negative way. We will learn the features of a great response; it should include the title and author, an opinion, and connections to the book that include details from the text. A response should also have an ending with a summary about what the writer thought of the book, and it should include feeling words. The students will learn these features in a sequential manner as they practice each step to a good response!
