CCS Arts Day
We are excited to announce that Friday, June 5th has been designated as Arts Day here in Chatham County. On this day every school will participate in a learning day dedicated to the arts. This means there will be activities related to Dance, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts. Go to www.ccsartsday.com and you will get to choose what activities you'd like to participate in. Be sure to check out the virtual field trips on this website too. If you are receiving paper packets, your Arts Day activities will be included in your weekly packets that can be picked up here at Silk Hope on Monday, June 1st. This is for all Chatham County students in grades K-12. We hope you enjoy participating and celebrating the arts in our county.
CCS PreSchool Registration
Chatham County Schools is still accepting PreK applications at all of our sites. Our PreK sites include: Bennett School, Chatham Grove Elementary, Moncure School, North Chatham Elementary, Perry Harrison Elementary, Pittsboro Elementary, Siler City Elementary, and Virginia Cross Elementary. For more information and to register please visit the CCS website or call Cindy King at 919-663-3610, extension 2. You can also send an email to ceking@chatham.k12.nc.us. Every classroom in the Chatham County Schools preschool program is led by a teacher who has a college degree in early childhood education. That means the teachers are trained to get positive outcomes from preschool aged children. If you know of children who will be 4-years-old by August 31, please spread the word.
Signing up for Electives (6th and 7th Grade)
Attention 6th and 7th grade students and families. Information was mailed to student’s homes with details on how to select next year’s elective courses. Every student will take PE and a Career Technical Education Course but they will be provided the opportunity to choose a second elective. Please review the course offerings and return the registration form by June 10. You may drop it off on June 8 or 9 or you may mail it to the school. If you have questions about any of the courses, reach out to the elective teachers.
Signing up for Electives (5th Grade)
5th graders should have received information about their elective choices for next year through google classroom, in your paper packets, posted on the website, in an email or mailed home to you. If you did not receive this information please reach out to Mrs. Stephenson. We want to remind you that as you get to choose electives for next year there is a lot to consider. Think carefully as you will not be able to switch electives during 6th grade. If you are thinking about band please remember you must start band in 6th grade; you will not be allowed to join in 7th or 8th because you will miss all the basic information. Please submit the google form to indicate which class you wish to register for in the fall. You may fill out the google form or mail the paper copy to the school.
Virtual Art Show
Silk Hope's Annual Art Show is virtual this year and is available for viewing on the Silk Hope School website. All students that have taken art this year have a piece on display in our virtual art show gallery. The shows are split into grade spans k- 2, 2/3 - 5, and 6-8. We hope you enjoy looking at your artwork as well as the artwork created by all of our talented art students.
Material Pick Up/Drop Off
Students will need to drop off their library books, athletic uniforms, and any other school items on Monday, June 8 from 10am-2pm or Tuesday, June 9 from 12noon-6pm. Items will be placed in bins which will then be placed in quarantine. Students will be allowed to keep their laptops during the summer for continued learning opportunities. We will also have student’s personal items from desks and lockers available for pickup during these times. More information about pickup and dropoff procedures will be shared prior to June 8th.
Student Celebrations
As we begin to wind down the year, we would like to give families the opportunity to share student celebrations. Use the form found on the SHS webpage to share any celebrations that have occurred during this time of remote learning. These notes will be shared with students when they pick up their personal belongings on June 8 and 9. Celebrations Form access: https://bit.ly/StudentCelebration
Week 10 Learning Plans
We will have paper copies of week 10 learning plans and supplemental materials ready for pick up Monday. The packets will be in a box located next to the front door. The paper packets are for students in 3rd-8th grade with no internet service or unreliable connection.
Meal Distribution
Breakfast and lunch grab and go meals will be distributed through Thursday, June 11. Meals are available Monday-Thursday from 10:30-1:00pm.
8th Grade Recognition
Lastly, I wanted to remind our 8th grade students and families that we will be honoring them this Friday night, June 5 with a drive-through parade celebration from 6:00-7:30pm. Families will follow the afternoon car rider line, entering the school parking lot behind the gym off Mt. Vernon/Hickory Mt. Road. At a designated spot along the route we will ask that you stop your car so that the 8th grader can pick up their gift bag from a table (all other family members will need to remain in the car). We have some special surprises for the group so we hope that you can join us as we celebrate and honor this special group of 8th graders as they leave our Silk Hope nest.
Keep SOARING Eagles!
