Updates from Mrs. Murphy and Mr. Ajamian
It is hard to believe that we reached the last newsletter of the 2020-2021 School Year! September 2020 seems so long ago. However, when I think back on this year, I beam with pride and appreciation. Our staff, parents and students remained resilient and optimistic even during the most difficult days. I have watched classes form extremely strong bonds and have seen teachers and parents partner in new ways. I thank each of you for sticking with this year and always showing appreciation for the work of our staff. This year is coming to an end faster than I would like because I am not ready for this chapter in my career to end. Although my next adventure will bring me closer to home, it is extremely hard to leave the people that make Seven Locks special. I will forever carry you and your children in my heart and think of you often. I hope to hear of their future successes as I know they are going to do amazing things! I thank you for welcoming me with open arms and supporting me over the last three years. The next principal is extremely lucky to have the opportunity to work with such an amazing group of students, staff, and parents. Be on the lookout for a newsletter from the school in early August with all necessary details about the Fall!
As we begin to prepare for the next school year, we want to take time to recognize two staff members that will not be with us next year. Mrs. Gronseth will be moving out of the area for her husband's job. We are thankful for all she has done over the last several years to support students that receive special education services and to find ways to become a resource to everyone in the Seven Locks community. Mrs. Steinberg remains on medical leave and will not return to Seven Locks. We thank her for her years of service to our community and wish her a full recovery.
Thank You
A huge thank you to our PTA Executive Board: Vivek Patil, Aby Filomeno & Andi Hedberg. Each of them spent hours behind the scenes to make sure our students had everything they needed to be successful this year. Vivek & Aby will be moving on from Seven Locks this year and will be missed more than we can put into words. Additionally, Verleria King-Jones & Mitun Seguin have been active members of the PTA board for the last few years and are being "promoted" to middle school! We thank them for all their support over the years.
A huge thank you to Rachael Datch for her continued leadership as the president of the Educational Foundation. Her time in this role is coming to an end, but we are lucky to know that we still have a few more years with her constant support. Additionally, Frank Pigott's time on the Foundation is coming to an end. We appreciate all his support and are happy to have him in the school community for a few more years.
We continue to appreciate all the parents who have committed to support the school and volunteer for leadership roles!

Long-Range Plan Addresses Student Math Performance
Nationally, the COVID-19 pandemic has had the greatest impact on mathematics performance than any other content area. Intentional adjustments were made to the content and pacing of curriculum to adapt to the virtual schedule and to address unlearned content from the beginning of the pandemic. MCPS has developed a long-range plan to address this. More information is available below.

Support the 10th Annual Give BACKpacks Campaign
Join us as MCPS kicks off the 10th annual Give BACKpacks campaign to raise funds, and coordinate the distribution of backpacks and school supplies to students in MCPS schools.
For just $10, you can provide a student with a backpack filled with school supplies. MCPS places orders throughout the summer with a goal of providing as many students as possible with a backpack and school supplies at the start of the school year. June, July and August are critical months to place orders. MCPS has set a goal to raise $300,000 to purchase backpacks and school supplies for students across our school system. Help spread the word about this campaign by sharing the campaign flyer with colleagues, family, friends and community members. Every donation helps a student in need. Learn more about Give BACKpacks.
