Good afternoon LDMS Falcons! I hope that you are having a relaxing Sunday. Thank you to all students who participated in "Start with Hello" week. It filled my heart to watch so many acts of kindness during the week. Don't forget that you don't have school tomorrow! Here are my reminders before we head into the school week.

1. STUDENT HOLIDAY 9/25. This is a friendly reminder that students will not have school on Monday, September 25th. Please enjoy your time off and get caught up on work as we move towards the end of the 9 week marking period.

2. LDISD SPECIAL EDUCATION PARENT MEETING. Please join us at Shady Shores Elementary on Wednesday, September 27th from 5:30PM until 7PM as the Special Education Department presents their first parent meeting of the year. Please see the flyer below for more details.

3. PTA CHIC FIL A SPIRIT NIGHT. The LDMS PTA will host a Spirit Night at the Chic Fil A Swisher/Teasley Rd Location on Thursday, September 28th. Bring your appetite and support the cause. See you there!

4. CLEAR BAG POLICY FOR HS FOOTBALL GAMES. Please be aware that there will be a clear bag policy in effect for the HS home football games. Please see the graphic below for more details on what is allowed. I don't want you to have to return to your vehicle when you go to Falcon Stadium.

5. FUTURE LEADERS OUTREACH NETWORK. Parents and students, we have included information about a program that we will start offering soon in the Counselor's Corner. Please make sure that you review the information provided so that you can make an informed decision on participating. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to either of the counselors.

The district is launching the Falcon Insider program, a new class-based forum where community members can get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at district operations. Participants of the program will join LDISD leaders once a month to learn about the responsibilities of various departments and see learning firsthand as the group tours each of the district's 5 campuses. Limited spots are available, so be sure to apply today!

Attention students and parents during 6th period on Tuesday, September 26th, school ID's will be passed out to all students. In accordance with the LDISD Code of Conduct these ID's must be worn at all times during the school day.

"All students must wear their school issued ID during the school day at all times.

Middle school and high school students must wear a current school-issued ID in order

to enter school athletic events. The ID should be clearly visible on the student's torso

with the picture facing out, either hanging on a lanyard around the neck, or clipped to

the upper chest area. IDs are not to be defaced/altered in any manner. If an ID is lost

or damaged, follow your campus procedures for a replacement. There will be a

campus-based cost associated with printing any replacement IDs." (Secondary Student Code of Conduct , pg 48)

Hello Falcons! Now that we are full steam ahead at LDMS, I want to remind everyone of these two areas. If you have not reviewed the Secondary Dress Code, please take a look HERE. Last week started full implementation. Falcons, we still have a couple of folks that are wearing their "weekend" clothes to school. Let's make sure that we are abiding by the district standards each day.

Also, as we continue to put an emphasis on instruction, we have gone back to a "No Cell Phones" in the building policy. Students are allowed to utilize their phones before they enter the building, but once they are in the building they will not be allowed to use them until the end of the day. This will greatly reduce distractions within the educational setting and allow our Falcons to focus on the instruction that is happening in the classroom. Please follow the LINK to this information in the Student Code of Conduct on page 50. Students found in violation of this policy will receive the following:

1st Offense - Warning, Verbal or Email

2nd Offense - Phone Confiscated by the teacher until the end of class

3rd Offense (and beyond) - Phone taken to the front office for parent pickup

Consequences for cell phone violations started Monday, August 21st. Thank you for your understanding with both of these areas.

Cari Houser is a 7th Grade Math Teacher in her 1st year here at LDMS. She comes to us from Lake Dallas Elementary. Mrs. Houser exemplifies what it means to be LDMS Falcon PROUD. She understands how to best meet the needs of her students and crafts lessons that are engaging and impact for students while also being fun.

Nadia Sweetland is our Receptionist at LDMS. She is the first employee that any stakeholder interacts with when visiting LDMS. She always has a smiling face and is looking to problem solve ANY situation that comes across her desk.

Families may complete an application to determine their meal eligibility for the current school year. To ensure students do not lose meal benefits, Lake Dallas ISD encourages eligible families to submit a free/reduced meal application online before September 20th, 2023. Paper copies may also be turned into the Child Nutrition Office or to the campus Cafeteria for processing. More information can be found on the district’s Child Nutrition website.

FLON will be conducting the Choosing the Best (CTB) WAY curriculum at your child’s school

(Lake Dallas Middle School) for participants in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades but you have the

right to choose whether your child participates in these classes. You can review the curriculum on the LDMS counselor webpage @ www.ldisd.net/site/Default.aspx?PageID=2087.

Morning drop-off starts at 7:45 AM and the tardy bell rings at 8:25 AM.

Dismissal begins at 3:55 PM.

As we get ready for another exciting season of Falcon Football, we would like to remind our LDMS family of the following expectations when attending MS or HS games.

· Elementary and middle school students must be with an adult/parent in order to enter the stadium.

· Middle school and high school students must provide a current school-issued ID in order to enter the stadium. (These will be issued soon)

· No student backpacks will be allowed.

· No outside food or drinks permitted.

· Field access is restricted. Students and families will not be permitted on the field. Only authorized personnel will be allowed.

· Loitering in open areas is not permitted. Students should be seated in the stands.

· No “pick-up” games allowed inside the stadium.

· Children should not be unattended in any area of the stadium.

· Spectators are expected to vacate the facility immediately following the conclusion of the game.

Students got to be the "I" in KIND and learned how to be kind to one another during our Start With Hello Week.

Bartley's class played The Lying Game...based on how the society and culture was built in The Giver. They had to decide like the protagonist..Jonas..if people were lying to them or telling them the truth through investigative questions.

Ian is a wonderful student to have in class. He shows the mature perception of knowing when is the appropriate time to socialize and when is the appropriate time to be focused and at work. His academic performance is exemplary. He also shows kindness and respect to me and his peers.

Roselyn (Rosey) goes above and beyond to apply herself academically. She produces high quality work, and even goes out of her way to check her work and make sure that she has met expectations and beyond. She also makes sure to help her classmates with tasks if needed, and helps her table mates stay focused and on task. She is always engaged with the lesson and asks important questions. She is an extremely hard worker! Especially being new to the district, Rosey has been an awesome contribution to sixth grade ELA!

Niko shows ownership and dedication in ELAR class by being prepared for class everyday. He is always in his seat and starting the daily warm up before the tardy bell. He is always respectful to both myself and Ms. Chambers, as well as to his fellow classmates. Niko is always smiling and willing to participate in class discussions.

Aubrianna shows ownership and dedication in ELAR class by being prepared for class everyday. She is always in her seat, ready to start class before the tardy bell. She is always polite and kind to everyone in class, and she is always on task, finishing her assignments on time.

When I think of Billy, teamwork and kindness are the first two words that come to mind. Billy is an excellent leader when working in groups by encouraging others, listening to ideas, and finding ways to bring all the ideas to life. His kind and authentic nature makes him personable. He is meticulous when completing his work and sets an admirable example for his classmates. I am thrilled to have Billy in my class this year!

Ja'Niya has a heart of gold and a committment to learning. She pays attention in class and does her best on her assignments. She wants to grow as a student and wants to be her best self. Ja'Niya encourages everyone in our class, including me. I admire Ja'Niya very much and am so glad that she is in my class!
