Elkton Elementary School Memo
October 26, 2020
A Note from Mrs. Palmer
Dear EES Families,
Planning is underway to welcome back our students in grades 2-5 and any new student coming form Pre-K-1 HLA. Class lists are being worked on. A letter will be mailed to students in grades 2-5 letting you know teacher assignment and whether they are on the A or B Day. Please keep in mind students may be moved to a different teacher to help balance out the number of students in each classroom. Some students will have multiple teachers so you may see several teacher names listed. Teachers in the upper grades may rotate to each class to teach a particular subject (sort of like middle school). How fortunate for your child to have multiple outstanding teachers.
At this time it is important for all parents, especially those that have students coming into the building in a few weeks, to read the EES Parent/Student Handbook.

For this school year, we will not be assigning letter grades (A,B,C,D,& F) to elementary students. We will provide students and families with descriptive information regarding their child’s academic progress throughout the school year. We will issue formal interim reports on the following dates:
Wednesday, October 21
Tuesday, December 8
Friday, March 12
Monday, May 3
We will also issue report cards, which will primarily consist of a narrative on Wednesday, February 10 and Thursday, June 10. Teachers will continually provide feedback to your child in regards to how he/she is progressing academically. Teachers will be evaluating and analyzing student work to determine if they are learning the content and skills being taught. Our goal is to provide students with quality feedback so they build upon their current knowledge and skills.
I wish you well...
Mrs. Palmer
Join the EES PTA - We need YOU!
Please consider joining our EES PTA for this school year, 2020-2021!
Last spring we were able to complete our Joe Corbi pizza fundraiser. Thank you to all who helped make that a success!
Due to the covid-19 pandemic, we were not able to meet and vote on spending these funds during the spring.
We want to spend these funds as our school leadership team is identifying needs that directly help our kids. In order to spend these funds, we need to have members! Then we can have a meeting (electronic) and vote on proposed motions. We are looking to vote by email (survey monkey or google forms or some such platform). Being a member does not obligate you to do any projects...we just need voting members!
How much are PTA dues? $5.00
Please make the check payable to EES PTA. Please mail it to the school at 302 B Street, Elkton, VA 22827 or drop it off at the EES office. (Attention: EES PTA).
Please, please, please attach a sticky note with a name (member) and an email address. The email address is very important to have as that is how we will be meeting and voting! Please fill out the Joining the EES PTA eform, too. This information will not be shared with any other groups or persons.

We are also looking for 2 officers to help guide our decision making. We need a vice-president, (not a president-elect--you do not obligate yourself to leading the PTA next year), and a corresponding secretary. We are looking for 2 people who are willing to share ideas and give opinions on how to best to support our kids at EES, and attend a few additional board meetings.
EES PTA contributions to our school: Art Night, Online program subscriptions that support instruction, Clothing for kids, 5th grade celebration, Greeting card contest, Reflections Art & Literature contest, Library books, Books for School-side literacy special programs, Red Ribbon Week, Nurse expenses, ERHS Scholarship, Teacher & Staff Appreciation, and more!
Why Join PTA?
PTA is the oldest and largest child advocacy association in America. Today's PTA is comprised of 5 million caring adults who share a commitment to improving the education, health, and safety of all children. The PTA's nationwide network provides parents with the forum and tools to collectively influence the decisions that affect children not only at their schools, but also throughout their districts, within their states, and across the nation.
Many benefits our children receive today, such as universal kindergarten, the National School Lunch Program, and a juvenile justice system, were accomplished as a result of the PTA mission.

From the Library
Every Thursday, between 3:30 and 6:00pm, families can come to Door #2--the library door--and knock, and Mrs. Talbot or Mrs. Hensley will bring the bag of requested books out to you. We are following the CDC safety guidelines for library books. You may also return library books on Thursdays at that time.
Happy Reading!
