DECEMBER EVENTS AT RHS
RHS Art Students take on Social Justice
In December students in Foundations of Art & Design Classes showcased work they created for their unit on Social Justice in the Library Conference Room at RHS. Families, Board of Ed members, administrators, as well as the entire RHS community, were invited to the show. Attendees could cast ballots for “best in show” categories.
RHS Capstone Program
The Capstone Program at RHS is designed to allow students in the STEM Scholars Program to conduct authentic, independent research. Part of that requirement is to reach out to the scholarly community for assistance when needed.
Khadijah Ibrahim, a senior in the RHS Capstone Program, hit the jackpot. Khadijah’s project centers around the molecular and neurological aspects of a protein folding disorder called Huntington’s Disease. She reached out to several professors, including Dr. Arthur Horwich, at Yale University’s School of Medicine. Amazingly, Dr. Horwich agreed to assist Khadijah during her research. Dr. Horwich is extremely well known in the scientific community for his contributions to biophysics and protein folding. He has won the Lasker Award, commonly referred to as “America’s Nobel Prize,” and the Shaw Prize, also known as the “Nobel of the East.” He is consistently ranked as one of the top 50 scientists that have never won a Nobel Prize.
Congratulations Khadijah on this magnificent collaboration!

December Artist of the Month
December Artist : Cailey Brochero
Grade: 12
Art Classes Enrolled in: AP art
Bio: Cailey has been drawing ever since she could hold a pencil. From a very young age, she has always had an “out of the box” imagination when it came to her use of creativeness. She used anything she could find when it came to creating- paints, crayons, markers, glitter and even recycling material. She started to take art much more seriously around the age of eleven and since then, has been developing an art style of her very own. A huge goal that she wants to accomplish is to make artwork that will inspire and help others.
Fun Fact: Cailey won second place in a 2011 State of Connecticut art competition. He art piece was displayed at the Board of Education.

CCMC Pajama Day
On Friday December 14th students and staff at Rockville High School wore pajamas to school to support the kids at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. This was the second year that the school participated in the event which brings awareness and support to the kids who spend many days and even months in their pajamas while battling life threatening illnesses. Many of the students and staff members have witnessed firsthand the great work that CCMC does every day to support the kids in our communities. The goal this year was to beat last year’s donation of $369. This year, Rockville High School raised $430 for CCMC!
Rockville High School looks forward to continuing to support the kids of CCMC through this yearly event
