From Equity and Student Support
The Equity & Student Support (E&SS) staff, which includes school counselors, social workers, psychologists and nurses, is here to support students with academic, health and mental health needs. We are available to talk with students via Google Meet, phone or email.
The E&SS team members follow the same procedures as classroom teachers by recording any video discussions with individuals or groups of students. If you do not wish for your student to be recorded in an individual or group session, please email the appropriate staff member and they will provide support via phone only.

Class Composite Photos Available
Hey Parents! This is Charlie at Roger Cannon Photography! I know the last month has been difficult to navigate. We know that so many parents look forward to having class photos made in the spring but because of Covid-19 that was not possible this year. We wanted to offer you another option this year with our custom class composites. Here is a link so you can order these for your children. They will be mailed directly to you at your home. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, Thank you!
2020-2021 Talley Street Reading Bowl Team
Mrs. Irons and Mrs. Friedrich are looking for avid readers who would like to participate in our Reading Bowl for the 2020-2021 school year. Although we are doing online learning, we wanted to get information out to those 3rd and 4th grade students who are interested. For all the details, read more here!

Spirit Wear and Yearbook Pickup
We wanted to reach out to the Talley PTO membership and let you know that we have your online Spirit Wear orders and would like to try to find a way to get them to you. As you are all likely aware, the original plan was to distribute the orders to your children at school, who would then bring them home. This is no longer an option in light of the coronavirus pandemic and related school year cancellation. However, we are still working on trying to get these items to you. Additionally, the Talley Street yearbooks are scheduled to arrive toward the end of May. We're interested in getting feedback from the community about arranging a pickup process for both the yearbooks and the spirit wear orders. Ideally, we'd use procedures similar to what many local restaurants are doing with pickup food orders (cashless transactions, maintain six feet of distance at all times, heavy use of sanitizer/disinfectant spray, PPE, etc.). We are interested in your feedback about the best way to accomplish this. Please email us at Talley.St.PTO@gmail.com with your thoughts. Thank you again for supporting the Talley St. PTO.

Order Your Talley Street School Supplies for the 2020-21 School Year!
We know it’s hard to plan a few days in advance these days, much less think about the next school year, but we are hoping to take one thing off of your to-do list this summer with online school supply kits!
The PTO has partnered with 1st Day School Supplies to make it easy for families to order supplies for the upcoming school year at Talley Street. You can order supplies NOW through June 15. Go to http://1stdayschoolsupplies.com/kits.php?sid=1178528, and remember to choose your child's grade for the 2020-21 school year. Kits will be shipped directly to school at the end of July.
This service is optional for parents, and you do not have to order through the site - but the prices are very competitive and your school supply purchase will be done! Please note that there is an option to purchase additional kits to donate to the school if you would like to do so. Each child will have access to all necessary supplies in the classroom.
If you prefer to purchase school supplies on your own, supply lists are available here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ASnrPtlvKy5X6D9E3j_ZmmOnTEYK_sa4iXqwzeH3L0M/edit?usp=sharing.
Please reach out to Lauren Brown at laurenbrown216@gmail.com with any questions.

News from the Decatur Education Foundation
Since we didn’t get a chance to run the Tour deCatur in March, we’re taking it VIRTUAL! If you already registered, you will receive an email with instructions. If you hadn’t registered for the 5K or one-mile Fun Run but want to participate, just go to www.tourdecatur.com anytime during the month of April. We’ll post the race results in early May, and the winners in each age group will receive their prizes in the mail. Your participation in the Tour helps support all of DEF’s initiatives, so you are doing so much more than running a race. Make it a family event: lace up those running shoes, make your own race bibs (fun art project, please send us photos), and get outside (while practicing safe social distancing, of course!)
Our Step Up for Teachers campaign has begun! Do you want to honor a special teacher or CSD staff person with a written or video tribute? Just go to www.stepupforteachers.com. Your tribute contribution also includes a choice of a “We Step Up for Teachers” yard sign OR a “Congratulations Class of 2020” yard sign that will be delivered to your Decatur address. This campaign is more important than ever – not only are our teachers working under extraordinary circumstances, but many of our PTA’s fundraising events were cancelled, so raising funds for our schools and our teachers is more important than ever. Proceeds from the Step Up Campaign go right back into the classroom.
