Habit of Mind: Gathering Data Through All The Senses. A Message from Superintendent, Dr. Dillon
Gathering data through all five senses - sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch - is crucial because it allows us to develop a more comprehensive and accurate understanding of the world around us. Each sense provides us with unique information that can help us make better decisions, solve problems, and improve our overall quality of life.
Data gathering through our senses begins at birth and should be valued and enhanced in our students at each and every grade level. This development of our senses is often thought of as a school responsibility but I believe that it should be something that happens at home as well. For example, ask younger learners to explain how something feels if they are feeling something for the first time. Or when eating a new food, have the student talk about why they like or didn’t like the food.
For older learners, ask them to observe the behavior of animals in their natural habitat and explain the insights into their ecology and social interactions, and what data led them to that conclusion. Similarly, paying attention to the emotional and physical reactions of individuals in different situations can help us better understand human behavior.
In addition, gathering data through all five senses can enhance our creativity and innovation. By engaging with the world around us in a more holistic and immersive way, we can develop new ideas and solutions to complex problems.
In summary, gathering data through all five senses is critical for developing a more comprehensive and accurate understanding of the world. By engaging with our senses, we can make better decisions, solve problems, improve our quality of life, and develop new ideas and solutions.

Our Wilder High School Track & Field team is off to a great start this season. Our girls 4x100 relay is currently ranked #1 in the district. Our girls 4x200 relay and Sprint Medley relay have both set new school records and are currently ranked second and third in the district.
Kenia Morales has set a new school record in the Girls Long Jump, and currently sits in the top 10 in the district.
Emely Ramirez, Mariana Ramirez and Zaydit Flores continue to shine as always. While freshmen Nancy Ramirez and Kylie Luna have been great additions to our sprinting team. Caroline Jove is the top ranked 9th grader in the district in both shot put and discus.
Some highlights on the boys side: Our team captain, Darrius France continues to improve each and every week having recently set a PR (personal best) in both the 100m and 200m dash. Bryan Jove is currently ranked in the top 10 in the district in the boys discus.
The Wilder Middle School Track & Field team has also started practicing. New head coach Hugo Manzo has them running like a well-oiled machine and we are excited about what those athletes will do over the next few weeks.

The Wilder Ladycats have been busy at the start of what is my 9th season coaching this program. The weather has not been our friend and we have battled through wind, snow, rain, and freezing temperatures thus far. We are currently 3-3 for the season and look forward to improving each game as the season progresses. We have a mixture of returning and brand-new players on our small squad of 13 players. Seniors Marissa Puga and Joelly Mendoza are leading us on and off the field to help us end their athletic career with a bang with goals to reach the state tournament in May! Our starting pitcher, Mia Luna, has already thrown over 500 pitches this season and doesn’t have any intention of slowing down. Juniors, Giselle Perez and Destiny Winchel are showcasing their bats with batting averages both over .400. I couldn’t be more proud of the start these ladies have had so far this season and can’t wait to see what is in store for the remainder of the season as long as it includes the sun and warmer weather.

We are thrilled to share the fantastic results of our recent Career Day event! The event brought together students and industry professionals for a day of learning and career exploration.
Throughout the morning, students had the opportunity to connect with representatives from a wide range of industries. We had a chef, architect, archaeologist, cosmetologist, police officer(s), construction worker, and chemist, to name a few. These representatives provided valuable insights into their professions/organizations, discussed job opportunities, and shared advice on succeeding in their respective fields. The time was informative and inspiring; students could ask questions and learn from the experts.
Overall, the event was a huge success, and we are thrilled to have provided such a valuable opportunity for our students.
I want to thank all the representatives who made the event successful, and Mrs. Felder and Miss Crow, who coordinated this event. You two did a fantastic job! We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future and continuing to support career development and exploration for our students.
