Pine Island Parent Press

March 2020

February flew by with no surprise since it is the shortest month of the year. All the students had a great time at their Valentine's Day parties- Thanks to all the helpers ! I am proud of how well parents support us in everything we do. March is reading month! Make sure you take some them to read with your child. Don't confuse quantity with quality. You child will remember 10 minutes of reading together for longer than they will remember 2 hours of television

- Mrs. Stacy Reehl

Dress for the weather

Just a reminder that we live in Michigan and our weather is all over the board! Our students spend time outside during the day and they need to be dressed appropriately so that they can enjoy our Michigan winter!! Hopefully spring is not too far away but for now.... dress warm!!

What Research says...

Reading aloud to your child is probably the most important thing you can do to encourage your children's success as readers. Here are some tips that you can use or that you may find you are already doing with your child.

  • Begin to read to children as soon as possible. Try to set aside time every day for reading aloud. You can start with just 10 minutes a day!
  • Remember that the art of listening is an acquired one. It must be taught and cultivated gradually.
  • Vary the length and subject matter of your reading.
  • Don't read stories that you don't enjoy yourself!
