A Message from Mrs. Thompson

Good afternoon,

I hope everyone had a wonderful new year! We had an amazing first week back here at Bush!

I am pleased with the amount of parents that I have been able to chat with since I transitioned into this new role. One of the things that I have heard from many parents is that they would like more opportunities to engage with the school and more opportunities to get involved. I think Covid has played a major role in our parents and community not feeling as involved in the school community as they usually do, so this topic is especially important right now. Ongoing research shows that family engagement in schools improves student achievement, reduces absenteeism, and restores parents' confidence in their children's education. One of the things that makes Bush so special, is the high volume of parent involvement, and I want to make sure that I am doing my part to offer you all opportunities to get involved and feel connected to our school.

I do want to take a minute to explain the Parent University events that we have been hosting at Bush once a month and will continue to host in the spring semester. Parent University was created in an effort to include parent's in their child's education by offering opportunities for parents to learn about education related topics, led by our staff. Some of the topics that have been presented earlier this year include: literacy assessments, understanding reading levels, the gifted and talented program, and parenting in a tech filled world. These events are also intended to build community and help increase parent involvement. I know that I have loved having opportunities to talk to parents about reading as well as the challenges we face in this social media world as parents. I would love to chat with all of you about these very important topics.

PTO and I are working on developing a survey to get your input on topics, days, and times for our Parent University events. Please keep your eyes out for that survey in the next week. As of now, our next Parent University is scheduled for Wednesday, January 26th at 6pm.

Have a great weekend!

Changes to Lunch Drop Off Procedures

Beginning Monday, if you are dropping off lunch to your child you will write your child's name, teacher, and grade level on a sticky note and place it on the lunch box. You will then place the lunch box in the grade level basket. The baskets will be delivered to grade level hallways for students to pick them up on the way to the cafeteria. This change in procedures will eliminate us from calling classrooms and interrupting learning for students to come pick up their lunches. Please see the picture below.

Safety Information

The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance. Over the past decade, Conroe ISD has spent millions of dollars on a layered approach to campus safety including the installation of secure entrances and vestibules along with adding security cameras throughout our schools.
