Football Update
The Panthers hosted the Lockhart Lions on Friday, and fell short in their first district game of the year. Medina Valley struck first on a James Gipson touchdown to give the Panthers the early lead, and the defense did their usual work, holding Lockhart to 3 points in the first half. The Panthers came out after the half and had a strong drive going, but a fumble returned for a touchdown changed the momentum of the game for good. The Lions found the endzone one more time to make the game 17-7, but the Panthers couldn’t get enough traction to overcome the difference. This week the Panthers look to rebound as they travel to Boerne Champion to take on the Chargers Friday night at 7:30.
JUNIOR VARSITY
The Panther JV team traveled to Lockhart yesterday to take on the Lions. In a hard-fought battle, the Black Cats defeated the Lions 14-13.
Nick Rash got the scoring started for the Panthers on a 5-yard run. Alex Luna chipped in on the defensive side tackling Lockhart's quarterback in the endzone for a safety. At the half, the Panthers were behind by the score of 13-8.
After a 45-minute lightning delay, the Panthers came out like a new team. The defense held the Lions scoreless, and the Panthers added a 35-yard touchdown run by Ethan Garza. The most impressive part of the half was the time of possession. The Panthers dominated it 16 minutes to 4 minutes. The offense used long time-consuming drives and the defense stuffed the Lions all half.
That puts the Panthers at 1 and 0 in district. We will travel to Boerne Champion next Thursday for our second district game.
FRESHMAN
The Freshman football team had their first district game on Thursday, at home against the Lockhart Lions. The offense started the game off with a long drive, which ended in a touchdown pass from Asael Moreno to Jayden Gonzales. The Lions scored twice to take the lead at the end of the half. The Panthers fought back in the second half, with two fumbles forced by Jaxon Vogel. In the end the Panthers could not overcome the deficit and fell to the Lions 23-14.

Class meetings with Herff Jones will take place on Thursday, September 26. Juniors will attend during 2nd period (after attendance is taken) and Seniors will attend during 3rd period (after attendance is taken). Both presentations will be over class rings and the ordering process. The senior meeting will also include information on ordering items for graduation, such as cap & gown, invitations and other 2020 senior items.
Herff Jones will also be here for Open House on Monday, September 30 to answer any questions parents and students may have and to take orders. Additionally, they will do the same during lunches on October 1st and 3rd.
PSAT PARENT ANNOUNCEMENT
PSAT signups will start the week 9/23. Students can come by the Counseling Center to pick up a form to fill out so they are ready and have it done once registration starts. Tests are reserved on a first come first serve basis. The cost is $17 in the form of check or money order.
AP PARENT ANNOUNCEMENT
The AP test registration process has changed this year. For the 2019-2020 school year students will register and pay for their exam by November 1st, but will still take the actual exam in May 2020. Students will be receiving information in their AP classes the week of September 23-27 on this new process. Just a few things to note:
All students taking an AP test will have to create a College Board Account and register to their specific class using a unique code. This code will be handed out to them when they receive registration information in class.
All students taking an AP exam will go through the Total Registration website to choose and pay for the test they are taking. If they took an AP test here at MV last school year they already have a Total Registration account.
ALL tests have to be chosen and paid for by November 1st.
Please contact Anneke Tschirhart in the MVHS Counseling Center with any questions or concerns. (anneke.tschirhart@mvisd.org; 830-931-2243 ext. 1169)
