FOR THE CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR
Attendance
If your son or daughter is absent from school, please remember that a parent or guardian must call the main office to report their attendance.
Medication
Medication forms are available in the Main Office. All medications must be on file. Students are not to carry meds unless a physician has given written authorization, and a completed form is on file.
Student Handbook Changes
Deliveries: No food or drink is to be delivered during school hours. The only acceptable items are school related items and items needed for school sponsored extracurricular activities. These may be dropped off by parent/guardian as an exception to the policy.
Dress and Grooming: No hoods are allowed. Hats are acceptable as long as they adhere to the dress code.
STUDENT HANDBOOK
Hand 2 Hand
We would like to offer your student the opportunity to participate in a program at Wayland Union High School called “Hand2Hand”. This program helps provide a student with food for the weekends and is intended for families who may currently be experiencing a financial burden. The first backpack is set to be delivered as soon as next week.
Here’s how Hand2Hand will work: In the middle of each week students who are signed up for the program will receive a minimum of 10 food items in a black school logo drawstring bag that will be provided at the first week of participation; September 13th. These food items will be a combination of breakfast, snacks, lunch and/or dinner items. While the food items are meant for the student, they can be shared among the family as well. (Please note: if your student or another family member has food allergies it will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian to check the contents of the backpack each week to ensure the food doesn’t contain ingredients which could cause an allergic reaction).
There is no cost to participate! If you sign your student up to receive Hand2Hand, they will continue to receive the weekly bags each week they are at Wayland Union High School. However, if down the road you no longer need the assistance, simply write a note expressing your desire to discontinue receiving Hand2Hand bags and give this note to the school office. This opportunity is being provided by Crosswind Community Church in Dorr. To learn more about Hand2Hand, please visit their website: https://h2hkids.org/.
If you feel your student would benefit from this opportunity, please complete the response form at the bottom of this letter as soon as possible and we will make sure that your student’s name is then added to the list. Your response will be kept confidential.

YEARBOOKS
Purchasing Yearbooks
Walsworth is our yearbook publishing company. A limited number of 2023 Yearbooks are available. Email yearbook@waylandunion.org to reserve your copy while supplies last. Order your 2024 yearbook this fall at www.yearbookforever.com.
Class of 2024 Senior Photos
Senior photos should be emailed to yearbook@waylandunion.org. Please share only ONE photo to be used in the yearbook. Photos need to be in portrait orientation. The clothing choice needs to follow the school dress code. A simple head and shoulder shot looks best in the yearbook.
Please crop photos before submitting. We create square boxes for the portraits to accommodate for portrait orientations. If we need to crop your photo, we cannot guarantee how it will look in the final product.
We request that the pictures look professional (i.e. no “Selfies”). If there are financial issues preventing a student from having a senior picture taken, please let us know because we can arrange for a yearbook photographer to take some nice pictures.
Photos due are by Friday, December 1, 2023. Seniors who turn in their senior portrait early will be entered in a raffle for a $20 gift card. A drawing will take place each month and winners will be notified over email. Submit your picture early for the best chance to win!
UPCOMING EVENTS

Wayland Village Pharmacy is working with our school to give the annual influenza vaccine to students and staff. This vaccine will protect against all four influenza strains that are expected to circulate this year. We will hold a vaccination clinic on October 5. This is optional for anyone who would like to participate. Consent forms are available in the Main Office, and should be completed and returned to the Main Office prior to the clinic date.
Marching Band Festival
Our band will be hosting the MSBOA Marching Band Festival on Tuesday, October 10.
This event will begin at 5:45pm, with nearly a dozen bands from all over West Michigan coming to our stadium! Bands are adjudicated on marching, music, and general showmanship. Tickets will be $5, cash only at the gate! We can't wait to take over the campus with so many excellent groups from around the area! Our own Wayland Wildcat Marching band will be closing out the festival with their show, "Are We There, Yet?!" Please consider coming out to support your marching band!
