Additional steps to a successful first year
Have a mentor
It is important to have someone you can go to for advice, or ideas, or just someone to listen to your ideas.
Know your classroom
Have an idea of how you would like your classroom organized. Set it up to where you are comfortable. You will have more sense of control in an area that is yours.
Be involved in the school
Know the extracurricular activities your school offers. Which students participate. This helps to know your students interests as well as showing pride in your school. Also gives you more opportunities to be involved with the faculty and parents.
Remember that you are not alone!
You will survive!
It will be a bumpy road, but you will make it through. You will be able to reflect on what worked and what didn't' and will be given a second chance to try again next year. Always remember why you chose to teach, and be proud that you made it!
