From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
DOOR-2-DOOR DRIVERS: As you will see below, we are still in need of drivers for Door-2-Door. If you are able to drive, your student will receive another share of the funds raised in addition to the share they will receive for participating. For example, a student share could be anywhere from $70-80. If you volunteer as a chaperone driver, your student would receive an additional $70-80 as fundraiser credit. Thank you in advance for your time!
UPCOMING PERFORMANCES: Our spring semester is filled with performances by the concert and jazz ensembles, many of which are performances in from of a panel of adjudicators. Please look ahead to the entirety of the Charms calendar and check with your family's calendar if there are any unavoidable conflicts. In many, if not all, cases the conflict can be resolved through communication between the parents and directors. Every student is the only person playing their part, and we need everyone to make the performance the best it can possibly be!
FINANCES: I apologize for the delay in statements being sent out, and I will have those sent out to families as early in the week as possible this coming week. As always, statements will include any fundraiser credit that a student has to apply to future charges, or any Past Due charges. Even before that statement is sent, please take a moment to log into your Charms account and make sure all information is up-to-date. Any past due balances should be alleviated before Door-2-Door. Then once credit from Door-2-Door is applied, only a small amount will be due for the final Fair Share payment of this school year. Thank you for your attention to this, as currently the Band program is owed slightly less that $17,000.00.
Let's have a fun and productive week!

BAND BOOSTER PRESIDENT MESSAGE
Week of January 19
We have a few areas where we need help in the next few weeks. Please see below for volunteer opportunities/details, and stay tuned for future MPA volunteer opportunities:
1. Thursday, January 23, 2020: Please come to the guitar room at WPHS (next to band room) at 7pm on Thursday, January 23, to help prepare for Door-2-Door. Bring your glue gun if you have one (and glue). We will also do some set up for the breakfast on Friday (see below) if possible.
2. Friday, January 24, 2020: We need 6 people to help with the breakfast hosted at WPHS for the band directors from around the county during All County next week. Help is needed Friday, January 24, 2020, from 8:30am-10:30am to set up, serve, and clean up (breakfast is catered). Please click on the volunteer link on the Charms calendar on "All County Band Rehearsal" on Friday, January 24 to add your name to help.
3. Saturday, February 1, 2020: 6-8 More drivers are needed for Door-2-Door. It is coming up quickly, so please see the Charms volunteer opportunity on February 1 to sign up. You must be Additions approved and send a copy of your driver's license and insurance to Heather Ribaric at ribaric.family@gmail.com. Please consider helping with this very important and fun event!
Looking forward, we will have a General Booster Meeting on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. All are encouraged to attend, so stay tuned for details.
Thank you for supporting the WPHS Band!

Color Guard - From Mrs. Johnson
Winter Guard kicked off their season at the Winter Sports Pep Rally on Friday the 17th. Their routine brought huge cheers as they seamlessly executed fast-paced and high energy flag work.
The Pep Rally performance was quickly followed by the FFCC Premiere on Saturday, January 18th at Lyman High School. This Guard team of 7 may be small in number but they are proving to be a force! Team Captain, Evan Mueller, along with Co-Captain, Tia Schaefer, and teammates Sydney Gevers, Janeisa Sullivan, Danaelis Rivera, Kathy Le, and Katina Ebalo performed a beautifully choreographed show set to Demi Lavato’s “Gift of a Friend.” Flag and rifle pieces went smoothly with Tia tossing a flawless triple. Evan and Katina rocked their solos that resulted in roaring applause from the spectators. It was a “dropless” show for this young team-very impressive! This season looks like it will be a strong one for the WPHS Winter Guard. Next up is Solo & Ensemble on February 7.

SOLO & ENSEMBLE
What's next:
Now that students are signed up for the performance option of their choosing for S&E, now the real work begins. Preparation of a solo piece or chamber work is a very individual task, but no one should be preparing their music alone. Seek out help from anyone you can - Mr. Clemente, Mr. Smith, your private lesson teacher, a section leader, your middle school band director, etc. Feedback from someone you trust to be honest with you is invaluable in preparation for S&E.
For those students performing a piece for S&E that requires a piano accompanist, you should be planning to rehearse with them within the next week. Your accompanist needs just as much time to prepare their part as you do to prepare yours, and you need to rehearse performing together as a duet. All students performing a piece with an accompanist should schedule at least 2 rehearsals with you accompanist before your performance at S&E.
