Message From The Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s hard to believe we are already in Week 5. Term 4, like other terms, is busy with lots happening in, around and outside the school.

Last night our Year 3 students made their First Reconciliation; it was a very prayerful, reflective opportunity for them to deepen their relationship with Jesus and experience His unconditional love and forgiveness. We hope that this is the first of many occasions that they seek this Sacrament of forgiveness in their lives. A big thank you to their teachers Judy Cobern and Francesca Da Rui who prepared the students and to Fr Stan and the assisting Salvatorian priests on the evening.

Staffing is complete for 2024. We warmly welcome Deb Barry and Angela Tedesco who will be joining us in 2024. Tuesday 5th December is Move Up Morning, this is the day students will meet their teachers for 2024.

Our Annual Community Meeting is fast approaching; nominations are open for members of our community to join either the School Advisory Council or the Parents and Friends.

As we approach the end of the school year it is important that we all continue to stay focussed and take every opportunity there is to grow as individuals whilst reflecting our Rainbow Values in our attitudes and interactions with others. Students are busy completing assessments, which are used by staff to inform the report writing and grades, so attendance is very important. As a staff, we will continue to be vigilant with the school uniform and ask for your support with this.

Staff and students are preparing for the annual Christmas Concert which this year will be held on Friday 1st December on the oval. We look forward to seeing you there. More information will come out closer to the day.

A reminder that if you wish to withdraw your child/ren from the school, one term's notice is required. This notice must be in writing and addressed to the Principal. Please keep in mind that failure to do so incurs a penalty of one term's tuition fees. We have families on waitlists, so please let us know as soon as possible. Thank you.

God bless,

Kerry Hewitson

Uniform

It is fabulous to see an increasing number of students proudly wearing the new school uniform. A reminder to please ensure old and new uniform items are not being mixed, e.g. old style shorts with the new style shirt. Please refer to the photograph displaying the correct formal uniform, including navy socks and black shoes. Sandals are not permitted as this is a safety issue.

Further information about the uniform policy can be found here.

Pupil Free Day - Next Friday

Please mark your calendars with the upcoming Pupil Free Day next Friday, 17th November. The staff will be undertaking Literacy Professional Development. We hope the children enjoy an extra long weekend!

Booklists 2024

Bulk order lists have been ordered by our class teachers for 2024. Therefore, no formal booklists will be sent home from Kindy to Year 6 this year. All items will be delivered straight to the classrooms during January. Booklist levies will be included in the school fees for 2024.

Students are still required to bring their homework folder and library bag. If you need a new one these can be purchased from the uniform shop.

Christmas Concert

We are excited to announce this year's Christmas Concert will be held on the oval to allow more space for families to enjoy their pre-concert picnic. We will have performances from all classes from Kindy to Year 6. Please be mindful that all children from K-6 are expected to attend this event. In some classes, an absent student can affect the dance choreography and let the class down. Thank you for your understanding.

Families can start setting up their picnics from 5pm and the concert will run from 6.30 - 7.30pm.

Students are encouraged to wear their own Christmas-themed clothing and accessories. This can be as simple as wearing a Christmas shirt, a Santa hat or any Christmas-coloured clothing (red, green, white, silver or gold). Please ensure these are appropriate and comfortable enough for students to move in.

As the concert is being held on the oval, which is a public space, we ask that you please be particularly vigilant with child supervision. When your child is not with their teacher, they should be with a supervising adult. Students will be with their classes from 6:15-7:30pm; after this time, parents need to supervise their children directly. Kindy students will return to their parents straight after they perform. Please also take all rubbish home with you at the end of the evening- we want to leave the oval neat and tidy for our neighbours.

As parking is limited, consider carpooling to the event. Please be respectful of the houses around the oval and avoid parking on verges and driveways.

There will be no access to the school grounds on the evening and all gates will be locked. Portable toilets will be available on the oval. We also suggest you bring a jumper as it can get chilly in the evening.

It is sure to be a wonderful evening!

St Vincent De Paul Christmas Appeal

Christmas for many of us is a time of happiness and celebration as we gather with our family and friends sharing meals, laughing and chatting as we open presents. However, for people experiencing poverty and disadvantage Christmas can be a challenging time. We can help!

Containers for Change

Recently, the school received key tags to promote our Containers for Change number from our Member for Kingsley, Jessica Stojkovski (MLA). All the money collected from this goes back into helping the sustainability projects we have in the school. This includes feed for the chickens and planting of the class garden beds. We also have a collection bin in the school next to the Cluck Club. Even Mrs Hewitson brings in containers for us! While many of our students use this as a chance to collect extra pocket money, it would be great if even one collection a year is added to our number C10276271.

Loud Sock Day Celebrations at St Luke's!

On Friday 13th of October, the students at St Luke’s celebrated Loud Sock Day by wearing their LOUDEST socks to school!

The TSH students had a fantastic day raising awareness for kids with hearing loss, and the St Luke’s community raised over $620 for Telethon Speech and Hearing. Each day leading up to the celebration, students from TSH shared interesting facts about hearing over the PA and reminded the school of ways to improve communication with deaf and hard of hearing people.

A huge heartfelt thank you goes to the St Luke’s community for your support and generosity.

P&F Library Donations

A big thank you to the P&F for their $2000 donation of books to our Library. Our Library could not do what it does without the generous support of a caring community. It is greatly appreciated and their contribution has helped us to continue to provide a rich variety of popular fiction, junior picture books and interesting, vibrant non-fiction.

SHINE Photo Competition

Recently, the Shine students were asked 'What does St Luke’s mean to you?' The students needed to include a photo and caption which were then voted on by the school on our Feast Day.

YOUTH GROUP REPORT

Last Friday, Woodvale youth group gathered with an impressive turnout of attendees, including one new member. The evening's theme centred on the "helmet of salvation," and we also briefly touched on the "belt of truth." To energize the group, we began with engaging games. Following this, a member of the Youth Mission Team delivered a talk highlighting how important it is for us to put on the armour of God of daily. The helmet was emphasised as crucial for protecting our mind against the deceptions of Satan, while the belt of truth was introduced as a means to walk in the truth and light of Jesus. Also the belt serves as a holder for the "sword of the spirit," a topic we'll explore more in the coming weeks. We're excited about delving into the other parts of the armour of God in our future youth groups!

NON-YOUTH GROUP ACTIVITES

We have our youth Mass coming up on the 26th of November.

NEXT YOUTH GROUP

Our next youth group will be on the 10th of November.
