Looking to this coming week, Wednesday is the 100th day of school! Also, 4th and 5th graders will have the option to participate in our grade level spelling bees later this week. Please see below for more information.
2022-2023 school year registration has begun! If your child will be entering TK or Kindergarten in the fall be sure to complete the pre-enrollment online. Also, as a reminder if you know anyone who is looking to school choice to Lang Ranch, applications are due by Monday, January 31st.
Happy Trails!
Ms. Triplett
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
The month of February is nationally recognized as Black History Month, a month dedicated to honoring the stories and accomplishments of African Americans throughout U.S. history. Below, we’ve gathered some suggested resources to help your family celebrate this important month.
There are so many African Americans that have made an impact on history. National Geographic Kids has created mini biographies on a number of African American heroes, including Shirley Chisholm, John Lewis, Booker T. Washington and many more.
Picture books are also a great way to bring the stories and histories of Black trailblazers to life for kids. The list below gives some recommended books to read at home:
- “I Am Rosa Parks” by Brad Meltzer
- “Unspoken: A Story from the Underground Railroad” by Henry Cole
- “Dave the Potter: Artist, Poet, Slave” by Laban Carrick Hill
- “Hidden Figures: The True Story of Four Black Women and the Space Race” by Margot Lee Shetterly (picture book version)
- “The Story of Ruby Bridges (Reissue)” by Robert Coles
- “Under the Same Sun” by Sharon Robinson

Share your Holiday Leftovers with MakerSpace
Donations:
We've been busy in MakerSpace this year making things glow, roll, fly, spin and so much more while discovering new skills and practicing perseverance and teamwork. 2022 is looking just as fun and productive!
As you wrap up your holiday season, MakerSpace would love you to send back to school any of these winter-break-leftovers:
- Shirt boxes - any size, both the top and bottom, and mismatched are welcome too!
- Scotch Tape
- Bows, paper, ribbon
- Paper plates, bowls, cups, plasticware
Volunteers:
We could use a few volunteers to help prepare materials. This can be done at home or on campus (for approved campus volunteers) at your leisure. Tasks are generally simple like cutting, measuring, tracing, etc. All materials (including tools to complete a task such as rulers, hole punch, scissors, etc.) are provided for volunteers and can be left at the front office for pick up and delivery. Please contact Mrs. Turner at mstephanturner@conejousd.org if you are interested in helping.
