Dallas ISD celebrates Black History Month
Throughout February, Dallas ISD is celebrating Black History Month. In 1926, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History founded Black History Week, which later grew into Black History Month. Dallas ISD schools celebrate Black History Month in a variety of ways. Be sure to check out The Hub for any events schools are hosting. As substitutes, you can take this opportunity to integrate Black History Month lessons into the classrooms that you cover. Check out the links below from the National Education Agency for various resources that you can bring with you into the classroom this month.

Classroom Management Tips of the Month
Remember effective classroom management is about minimizing disruptive behavior. To achieve the goal of having an effective and productive class period of uninterrupted learning, listed below are a few tips:
- Monitor students carefully and frequently. Always circulate around the room in intervals. This will allow you to detect disruptions early before it gains momentum among the students. Never underestimate the power of proximity control. Sometimes simply standing near your rowdier student can prevent disruptions.
- Redirect disruptive behavior by stating the expectation or cite the applicable rule.
- Always try to praise wanted behaviors publicly and correct disruptive behavior privately.

Summer Substitute Professional Development Feedback
What to do when your paycheck is incorrect?
Typically, errors only come into play when a substitute has been on a long term assignment and is afforded a higher pay rate. That is why it is important for substitutes to keep track of all their days worked and where they are working. If there is an error, the substitute office DOES NOT make the correction for you. Each campus office manager is the time keeper and they are the point of contact for all substitute payroll questions/corrections. Below you can find the contact person for all campuses in the district. This is also found on the substitute webpage.
