To become a senator you have to pass qualificationsincluding age and residency.

  • to be a senator you have to be at least 30 years old.
  • You have to be a legal resident in the state you are representing.
  • You also have to be a citizen of the united states for at least 9 years before the election

Term of Office

During the Term of office you would do 6 years at the most and expect staggered elections.

Every evened number year the senates and House of Representatives meet in Washington DC in the nations capital to do elections. During the elections only 1/3rd of the senates are re-elected but not all of the senates would be put up for re-elections also known as staggered elections.

Salary and Benifits

The Senates recieve $174,000 a year.

They recieve many privileges for example:

  • Stationary
  • Postage for official buisness
  • a medical clinic
  • a gymnasium


Senators are free from arrest "in all cases except treason, felony, and breach of the peace." when they are attending Congress.

Also members of congress cant be sued for anything they say on the House or Senate floor.
