Auditions BEGIN THIS WEEK!
Links for auditions packets provided here: http://mhslionsorchestra.com/?page_id=41
The goal is to begin auditions around April 4th. This is a month earlier than last year but will assist with the scheduling process and is a deadline set by the MHS Administration.
Solo & Ensemble Contest - students will receive time assignments Monday, April 4.
Students will receive their assigned times today during class. If a student needs a time switch we will do our best to accommodate but the schedule is extremely compact. Ms. O'Neill worked diligently to make sure ensembles and solos were close to each other and siblings were also scheduled near each other to assist with scheduling transportation.
Solo & Ensemble contest will be held at MBHS this year on Saturday, April 16, 2016.
Students have all received a pack of solos that they may choose from however, if a student is taking lessons with a private lesson teacher we can look at other solo options.
If students plan to compete for a coveted spot on the Sweets and Strings concert to work toward one of the three MHS spots on the MISD Honors Recital, they must play a class 1 solo off the prescribed music list. The Solo & Ensemble judges will choose 10-12 candidates to move on to the Sweets & Strings concert/competition.
If you want to verify a solo class level, please feel free to contact Ms. Sorgi or Ms. O'Neill or you can look on the prescribed music here: http://www.utexas.edu/uil/pml/browse
UIL Concert & Sightreading Contest 2016
The MHS Orchestras dominated 5A UIL Concert & Sightreading contest for the seventh consecutive year this week! The orchestra program started ten years ago with six students and has rapidly grown to over 150 students! This year MHS had three orchestras attend UIL and all orchestras received Superior “1” ratings on both stage and in sightreading. This is the first year for the combined Symphony Orchestras to attend, fourth year for Chamber Orchestra and seventh year for our Honors Chamber orchestra! Recordings of the performances will be available on www.mhslionsorchestra.com under the awards tab.
Special congratulations to Honors Chamber soloists Neelam Bohra, Jakob Chow, Kelsey Clark, Joshua Dexter, Sai Sai Ding, Morgan King, Ralph Martin, Alex Paradis, Gabby Rice and Lauren Tyson.
