An MSD Communication that Cuts out the Clutter!

The Main Things | Literacy for All Day & Oakdale Mascot Alumni Invite

Main Thing 1: Literacy for ALL

The 2022-2023 school year is the Medford School District’s Year of Literacy. We know that reading is the foundation for learning, so ALL MSD staff are focusing on professional learning and development around how to best support students on their literacy journeys.

There is no school for your student on Friday, October 14th. Every staff member across the district will be working toward our goal of all students reading at grade level by 3rd grade. Watch this video to see how all staff play a role in literacy.

Parents and Guardians also play a role in literacy! Here are some resources you can use in your own home with your students:

Main Thing 2: Oakdale Mascot Alumni Invite

Things are coming together at Oakdale Middle School! Next Monday, October 17th we will reveal the school’s new mascot and colors.

We are inviting future students and all alumni of the historic building that will house Oakdale Middle School including Medford High School, Medford Mid High, South Medford High School and Central Medford High School alumni to join us!

The Mascot and Colors reveal is October 17th at 5:30 p.m. If you have prospective Oakdale Middle School students or are an alumni, please RSVP here.

Fentanyl Awareness

The safety of staff and students is our number one priority. Medford Police informed us the community is currently seeing an increase in overdoses caused by fentanyl. What happens in our community can have an impact in our schools.

Sometimes fentanyl looks like candy and can be left on school campuses outside of school hours. It’s important to know this as Halloween approaches. We do sweeps of campuses for these types of items and have Naloxone (also known as Narcan) on each of our campuses. School administrators and nurses are also trained on how to use it. You can find additional details and resources in this bulletin. (Spanish bulletin)

MSD Receives Highest Financial Reporting Award

The Medford School District has been recognized for excellence in using and reporting government funds. MSD received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
