Colt Weekly Update
Power to Amaze!
Colt Parents,
We are done with week seven and only two weeks away from our Fall intersession break. We will be having our intersession learning camp from 8:00-3:00 the week of October 4-8. It is of upmost importance that your child attend if they are invited.
We will be focusing on accelerated instruction during this time along with enrichment and SEL activities.
We will be hosting a Career Day in November. I realize it is a time away, however we are giving you plenty of time to recruit individuals you may know who would like to present on this day.
Pedestrian safety is an initiative we are starting in #TeamSISD. I want to remind you to please slow down when you are driving around our school, stay off your cell phones and be aware of students who may be crossing. I also want to remind your children about the importance of using crosswalks when walking to and from school or getting off the bus.
Safety is our number one priority. Our PE coaches will be delivering these important safety lessons to our Colts.
Breakfast is served in the classroom from 8:00-8:15. Please ensure your child is on time to take advantage of the most important meal of the day.
If your child is not feeling well, please keep them home. While attendance is important, student and staff safety is priority.
The new mask mandate is now in effect. All students and staff must wear a mask. Please make sure you are sending your child to school wearing a mask. This is to try and prevent additional breakouts. Also, if you come into close contact with a COVID positive person, please E-swipe and stay home.
Please encourage your child to read a minimum of twenty minutes per day. The library is open and they can check out books to read at home. MACKINVIA is available for students who prefer ebooks. Tumblebooks is coming soon!!
Educationally Yours,
Leticia Terrazas

Attention 8th Grade Colts
PSAT 8/9 2021-2022
We are very happy to announce that the Socorro Independent School District is paying for all 8th grade students to take the PSAT 8/9 (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.
Information about PSAT: The PSAT 8/9 is designed for 8th and 9th grade students. It is a test that will help educators and students figure out what students need to work on most so that they are ready for college when they graduate from high school. The scores are reported on a common vertical scale, allowing educators and students to measure progress. The test is 2 hours and 25 minutes long, timed, and there is no penalty for guessing or blank responses. The test consists of Reading, Writing and Language, and Math.
Benefits of the PSAT 8/9: The test establishes a baseline measurement of college and career readiness. It tests the same skills and knowledge as the SAT in a way that makes sense for each grade level. The score reports will give students comprehensive, personalized feedback on test performance, allowing students to see which questions were answered incorrectly and which academic skills should work to improve on Majors and career exploration with College Board. Most importantly, the PSAT is practice for the actual SAT, which is a required college entrance exam for most universities. The more students practice, the better their test results will be when they take the SAT their junior and senior year of high school.

Desert Wind is a Texas Purple Star Distinction School
We are very excited to announce that Desert Wind is now a Texas Purple Star Distinction School.
