Roselawn Update for Parents
April 27, 2020
Good Morning Roselawn Families;
April 27, 2020
Roselawn Families;
I hope this letter finds all of you and your families healthy and safe. We are currently engaged in an unfortunate historical time, and I could not be more proud of our Roselawn families, staff, and students. Teachers have worked hard to continue to make connections with students and offer a continuation of learning. Students have engaged with teachers and have put their best foot forward. Parents are juggling work, financial hardships, and trying to homeschool their children, along with all the other responsibilities placed on their plates. All of us at Roselawn thank you and appreciate you.
The reason for this correspondence is to officially offer families more information about Governor Evers's decision to close schools for the remainder of the year. Through this letter, I hope to answer some of the most pressing questions that families might have about the end of the school year.
Will there be a 4k and 5th Grade Recognition Ceremonies to close out the school year?
We are currently in the planning phases of what these will look like for our students. Planning must fall within the parameters of the guidelines set by the state, and we know these could change throughout the spring. Plans will be released to families no later than May 8.
When can I gather my Roselawn student's belongings?
On May 11th and May 12th, families will be able to stop by during designated times to pick up student belongings. All belongings will be gathered up for students, and we will facilitate a pick-up system for families. We will make sure we have morning, afternoon, and evening times to pick up belongings. Parents can even pick up their belongings by appointment. We are currently finalizing details for this process, and they will be communicated to parents soon.
Will the work my son or daughter is doing be graded?
Teachers at each grade level have identified the essential learning targets for trimester three. Work that is sent home or placed in digital classrooms is aligned towards these learning targets. Throughout the spring, teachers will be giving feedback to students and helping them meet proficiency.
We will not be doing trimester three report cards this year. However, teachers will be having an end of year summary conference with students and parents. During this conference, teachers will do a final check-in with students, discuss the progress and obstacles in regards to the learning targets as well as talk about the next school year. Teachers will have a questionnaire to complete during this process, and a copy will be placed in the student's cumulative file and sent home.
Will there be summer school?
We are hoping to have a summer school session in the first two weeks of August. The usual June summer school sessions will not be able to occur. We are looking to have summer school details released before the end of May.
Will there be any changes to the school calendar for next year since we missed the last trimester of this school year?
The school calendar will remain the same. The first day of school will be August 26th.
How will Roselawn get my son or daughter caught up academically next year?
A recent article had 9 out of 10 students globally being displaced out of school. Even though we missed the last trimester, in reality, all schools around the world are in the same predicament. Roselawn has an excellent system of identifying those students in need and providing them the resources and interventions they need. Throughout the summer, we will re-examine these systems, improve them, and make sure we have a systematic response at all grade levels to help students continue to grow academically. Along with the academic well being of our students, we are also going to make sure Roselawn students' needs are met socially and emotionally as well.
These six questions have been the most common ones that I have been asked. If you have more questions that are unique to your son or daughter, please don't hesitate to call the Roselawn front office at 715-924-2244. You can also email Mr. Nelson or me at the contact information below. Remember that the Roselawn Web Site is where parents can go to find all the information they need for distance learning for grades 4K - 5th.
In summary, I want to say thank you again for everything, and we can't wait to see all of our Roselawn families together again, hopefully soon!
Sincerely,
Scott Kowalski
