This month Bethany and I met one of my families at Farmony Safari Edventure in Madison County. We had an amazing hands on experience where we met and were able to pet a sloth, wolf/dogs, marmosets, porcupines, lemurs, and even kangaroos. Brexton was very awake and alert and seemed to be stimulated by all the different animals and the smells in the barn. He became more chatty than I have ever seen him in the past. His mother Liz gave him so many great opportunities to do some hand over hand petting of these unique animals. This field trip related to the sensory component of the expanded core curriculum, as well as compensatory and recreation and leisure. Going on field trips and getting outside the home for some of our visits gives our kids the chance to experience the world in new ways that they would never be able to in the home. How many 1.5 year olds do you know that have had a hands on experience with a sloth? This trip made a memory for this family that will go down in the books as unforgettable and unique! What places in your local community can you visit with your families that could increase their child’s ability to access art, animals, music, dance, food, literacy, movement, or science? Think outside the box! There’s so much to explore together!
