Literature Circles Training

Professional Development with Liz Lietz - MISD
In support of the independent novel units from Springboard, Liz will provide a day of training on Literature circles. Her resources, from College Board, align well with the Springboard units and resources. Please note the timeline of the targets may shift slightly throughout the day depending upon the needs of the group.

Learning Targets:
8:15 - 11:15
- Understand the process of literature circles and the connection to the Springboard novel unit
- Apply workshop model for reading and writing to the novel unit and where it fits on the instructional transformation matrix.

Lunch - on your own
Please note, there is a kitchen area microwave and coffee, as well as a refrigerator in the main office, if you choose to bring a lunch and need refrigeration or a way to heat up your items.
12:15 - 3:15
- Identify where on the instructional transformation matrix workshop model fits.
- Determine 2nd trimester timeline for implementation of novel unit, including PLC date to bring data for review (please note, this date will be coordinated with Liz, who will help review data, reflect on the process, and determine additional supports students need.
- Plan unit - time frame during second trimester, with identified PLC data to bring data. Liz will attend the PLC to review data and help with next steps.

Please bring your Chrome book, the novel unit from Springboard, and any novels that you may want to reference for planning.
