Principal's Corner
Dear Families,
I can’t believe we are already into October! We spent the month of September acclimating students to the routines and expectations of school. Now with the cool air on our doorstep, we are focusing on their academics. We begin my assessing every student in a universal screener called, AimswebPlus for reading and mathematics. This helps us determine if our students are ready to take on grade level curriculum. Additionally, we assess each Grade 1-4 student’s reading (decoding) and spelling (encoding) to determine a “just right” instructional level that is sure to move them along as fluent readers. In Kindergarten, we begin by assessing their knowledge of rhyming and syllables (phonemic awareness). In Mathematics, all teaches are using the Bridges Math Curriculum. We give a unit screener and intervene in small groups to be sure students are ready to take on the learning in the math block. We check their progress with a post assessment.
I’m so excited that the teachers have assessed all of our students and are delivering lessons that are tailored to each individual learner, that is no easy feat! We will continue to monitor how the students are taking on learning and adjust instruction accordingly. Some students will receive additional intervention from a reading specialist, math interventionist or a special educator.
Thank you for being a partner in your child’s education! We appreciate your support with a quiet place for them to complete their homework and nightly reading. We appreciate you reading the home connection parent letters that explain the content we are teaching in school. Enjoy those cool evenings!
Sincerely,
Audrey Faubert

National Family History Month: How to Discover Your Family History
October is National Family History Month. This is a great opportunity to talk about family history and make sure your family story is remembered for decades (and centuries) to come.
On Tuesday the teachers will be sending home a paper bag with each child. Stapled to the bag is a note that says the following:
October - Family History Month
This is our first activity of our “THIS IS US” Celebration. Please bring in one object that represents your family history/culture. For example, a picture, recipe, family tree or a souvenir from where your family is from.
**Please return the paper bag with your name on it by Monday, October 23rd
Enjoy the activity, I’m sure it will provoke some fun discussions!
