The first emperor was very short lived he was forced to retire by his son.
The second Emperor made a legal code that served as a model for the following eras and was a guide line for other countries such as Korea and Japan, A court was also established "The Tang Court used examinations to appoint many Confucian Scholars to the ruling bureaucracy" The Court used this exam system to staff a portion of the empire's bureaucracy, this was a foreshadowing of the rule of Neo-Confucian literati in the Song Dynasty
Thanks to its leaders in the tang dynasty China reached its height before the an Lushan Rebellion in 756. A census was taken in 742 and based on this the population of the empire is thought to have been about 50 or 60 million people
