UCS Family Literacy Connection
Growing Readers - January/February 2022
Welcome Parents and Caregivers,
In Utica Community Schools we celebrate literacy all year long. This is the second in our bi-monthly Family Literacy Connection newsletters. Developing successful readers along with a love of reading is a shared mission across the district. Your partnership and consistent adult support at home are key contributors to your child's educational success.
One of the best ways for our children to develop a love of reading is by watching us enjoy it and modeling that for them. We know that reading is hard work, and life offers so many other ways to entertain ourselves that reading often seems more like work than play. As parents and caregivers, we need to help our children get to that sweet place where reading a good book is more fun than almost anything.
Throughout this issue, there are many tips to help your children develop a lifelong love of reading. We look forward to a continued partnership to create a culture of reading not only at school but at home as well.
