Important Arrival and Dismissal Information
Because we have 3 schools on our campus, and limited parking and through-ways, it is essential to be courteous and respectful. In order to facilitate OMS arrival and dismissal, please do NOT arrive before 7:50 am in the morning and 3:00 pm in the afternoon. Also, in the morning, our staff utilizes the third (right) lane to arrive at their parking lot. Please allow them passage through if they are struggling to get by. Additionally, although parking is limited, please be very mindful of our neighboring homes. At Open House, deep, muddy tracks ruined the sod of our neighboring homeowner's newly laid grass, which had just been replaced, due to damage from the last time we had a school-wide event.
Finally, dismissal usually takes much longer than usual the first week of school. Buses might arrive later than expected and our car line usually runs twice as long as usual. Last year, the first few days of car dismissal was close to an hour. While this is not the norm, please be prepared for the delay and plan activities and appointments accordingly. Also, students will NOT be released to cars without a current, school issued car tag. Parents without a car tag will be directed to park and report to the office and have a driver's licence to have their child released to them.
We are hopeful that the first week, (or any of our dismissals) will not include severe weather, but in the event of lightning in the vicinity, our school policy this year is to stop the car lines and have parents remain in their car until the lightning is no longer in close proximity. (Note: this is different from last year's procedure of having parents get out of their cars to retrieve their children.)
As stated, earlier, due to our limited parking and through-ways, it is essential that everyone follow our procedures and demonstrate respect and courtesy. When one party attempts to self-exempt themselves from the process, it causes strong emotions from other parents who are following the procedures. Sincere thanks to everyone for helping to make our arrivals and dismissals safe and stress-free.
Reminder: Volunteers and lunch visits will start at the end of September.
