CHARACTER TEXTURE AND RENDER
Base Mesh renders
Pre visualization playblast
I am thinking of doing a long shot as my character turns around and then have it cut to a close up of my characters face, to show off the texture applied. For this assignments, i will try to keep everything very minimal, from the color, to lighting and props in the scene. I wanted to achieve mysterious/creepy and somewhat empty mood for this assignment.

Lighting
Inspired by Noir films, i chose to go for this look since it conveys a mysterious/creepy vibe that i am going for. This is probably my least favorite lighting for this scene since i do not know if it will work for the character that i have chosen.
Kind of similar to the Noir lighting, I wanted to go for a mysterious/ lonely kind of mood. Im planning to add in a couple of area lights around the scene, to emulate the lights in this picture. I will to add strong lights behind and to the background of my character if i do decide to go with this type of lighting.
Out of the 3 , this lighting setup is what i am leaning most towards. It has the mysterious mood with the evil/malevolent feel. The red lighting really pops and makes the whole picture feel scary and demonic in a a way, along with the dark lighting. If i decide to use this type of lighting, I will probably decrease the intensity of the red lighting, since i feel like it leans more towards demonic than mysterious.
Textures
This feather texture will be seen on the body of the character. With the model i chose, the feet kind of reminded me of a chickens, so i decided to go for a creepy hybrid type chicken creature.
This flesh material will be seen on the hands of my character. Im not too sure with this color choice, I may or may not change it since the color may interfere with the mood i am trying to set up.
This gross looking Tongue texture will be seen on the inside of my characters mouth. I chose this texture since it looks really gross and unsettling, which perfectly suits the characteristics and personality of my character.
Combined with the feathered body, this scaled texture will appear on the feet of my character, which will give it the characteristics of a chicken. I decided to keep it black and have no color since it will fit the mood of the scene. Not too much lighting would be emphasized on the feet anyways.
Color Pallette
These are a couple of color palettes i am working with. There are not much since from the beginning, I have already had a clear idea on what mood i am trying to achieve. I am trying to achieve a dark, mysterious and somewhat unsettling mood. If i use many bright flamboyant colors, i do not think it will work . I was kind of going for that 1950s sci fi feel, minimal color or none at all. Since the character i chose already looks creepy and with dark lighting to go along with it, i think i will achieve the creepy mood that i am going for.
Reflection
Through out working on this project, i experienced some technical issues with Maya crashing at random times, so i had to save frequently. On the more artistic side, i was not sure of what type of lighting to go for. I intended to have bright lighting in the scene to showcase the textures and material used on the model, but decided that using dark lighting would better set the mood and the story. I was also thinking of adding more to the shape of the model, but decided that keeping it simple and leaving it as it is made the overall scene more creepy.
If I had a chance to go back and redo a couple of things, i think I would spend more time planning out and exploring different styles for this assignment. I usually spend most of the time on pre-production, but due to time constraints, i was not able to spend as much time as i would have liked planning out the scene.
