Principal's Message
As we take our leave for the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend, I just wanted to say how grateful I am to be a part of our school community. Our heart and commintment were on full display this week as we donated hundreds of brown bag lunches to the Hoboken Homeless Shelter for our annual Friendsgiving Tradition. This was a total effort between staff, students, and parents/guardians. I've said it countless times - when all three phases of our community work together, we do amazing things! Thanks to our PTO for assisting with this endeavor.
Speaking of the partnership with our Brandt School PTO, students will have the opportunity to shop for the holidays at the Penguin Patch Holiday Shop from 12/5 - 12/8. You can see details in the flyer below, and please click on the link below to volunteer to assist if you cam.

The next meeting of the PTO is scheduled for Friday, December 2nd at 9:00 AM in the Brandt Cafeteria.
On Wednesday, November 23rd, we were excited to engage students in our first ever Mini Personal Growth Program (PGP) Day. This disctrict-wide, K - 12th grade effort was implemented across all of our schools. Students had the opportunity to complete activities focusing on social and emotional well-being, careers, and teamwork (just to name a few). Thanks to our staff for being their regular, awesome selves as we rolled this out for the first time. We will have our second round of Mini PGP on Friday, December 23rd - our next scheduled 1:00 PM dismissal day.
Please be advised that Picture Retake Day is scheduled for December 1st. There are details in a flyer below.
To benefit our friends at the Hoboken Community Center, we will be partnering with them for a Toy Drive. Details are included in the flyer below.
Our school is participating in survey data collection using the New Jersey School Climate Improvement (NJ SCI) Survey to help obtain multiple perspectives on aspects of school climate. Collecting data is important for understanding strengths and needs in our school and how it feels to be a member of the school community. You can find a link to the survey in today's newsletter.
On behalf of the HEA, a Family Magic Show is scheduled for Friday December 9th at 6:00 PM in the HHS Auditorium. The event is free of charge, and it is not a drop off event.
Please support our Senior Class Pancakes for Prom fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, December 10th from 9 AM to 12 PM in the HHS Cafeteria. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
Our annual Elementary Schools Winter Concert is scheduled for December 14th at 7:00 PM in the HHS Auditorium. Information to purchase tickets is in the flyer included below.
Please be sure to check out the flyer below for the PTO's Minted Fundraiser, as well as flyers for our annual Giving Drive, Cub Scouts, and the HPEF.
For this week's Friday Playlist, I went with three songs about being thankful.
I hope you enjoy our abbrebviated Newsletter - we will be back with full grade-level and subject area updates nxt Friday. Please stay safe and have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday.

NJ SCI Survey
Dear Parent/Caregiver(s),
Our school is participating in survey data collection using the New Jersey School Climate Improvement (NJ SCI) Survey to help obtain multiple perspectives on aspects of school climate. Collecting data is important for understanding strengths and needs in our school and how it feels to be a member of the school community.
Your voice is important to us, and your opinions will help us to address current priorities. The survey is anonymous and it is voluntary. The results will be used to help create a plan to address school climate needs and make improvements to the school. You may submit a separate survey per child in the school building if you feel their experiences are different, but you do not have to.
Click here to take the survey and enter the password: parent
If you have any questions during or after the survey, please contact Andrea Della Fave at adellafave@hoboken.k12.nj.us.
We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to exploring new ways to continue working together to create the most supportive and engaging learning environment for your child.

This week in ELA, we learned about what kind of bugs we know about. We reviewed letters Tt, Mm, Aa, Pp, and Ss, as well as the sight word like. In math, we continued to learn about length and comparing. In Social Studies, we learned about Thanksgiving and what the students are grateful for!
First Grade
Fourth Grade
Although students had a short week this week, they still managed to get a lot of learning (and fun) in!
In Social Studies, students learned about the First Thanksgiving and shared their own holiday traditions, comparing the food they eat with the food the Wampanoag Native Americans and Pilgrims ate hundreds of years ago during their feast.
In ELA, students continued to read our novel, Ancestor Approved, and they practiced writing their own Thanksgiving stories using all the elements of a narrative.
In math, students continued making connections between multiplication strategies and division, solving and creating their own division word problems.
During our half day, students had a day filled with fun activities targeted to help students engage in personal growth. They talked about career exploration, acts of kindness, choosing friendships in and out of school, and developing self-identities.
The Counselor's Corner

Individualized Learning Pathway - Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth
On Mondays - Wednesdays during the Individualized Learning Pathway (ILP) period, students who have qualified to participate in the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) programming engage in a wide array of verbal course offerings that address their specific strengths and interests. Johns Hopkins CTY believes in researching and advancing ways to identify and nurture academically talented learners. CTY furthers research, guides educators and families and inspires students from diverse communities and backgrounds to pursue their intellectual passions and create the world of tomorrow.
This week, we would like to highlight one of the CTY courses offered to our Hoboken students this fall:
