On Track for Digital Learning
Baldwin County Public Schools
Setting the Stage
Six years ago, our district embarked on a 1:1 technology initiative. Our team of Instructional Transformation Specialists (ITS) helped teachers transform instruction by shifting toward digitally driven lessons placing students at the center of the learning as innovators armed with 21st century tools. With a resource/tool focus and an instructional strategy focus each month, the ITS provide trainings, co-teaching, support, and coaching to all teachers in Baldwin County.
Professional Development
- Innovation Station - Teachers can visit or receive training with the many technology tools available at Educational Technology's Innovation Station! Tools are available for teachers to use, create, and design authentic lessons. Certain items are available for check out to be used in your classroom. 3-D Printing, MC Squares, breakout boxes, and maker spaces galore are available to experience and then use with your students to promote authentic learning experiences!
- eMints - Two year, sustained professional development during the evening, twice a month. eMints focuses on changing the culture and instruction of the classroom to a student-centered environment.
- Embedded Professional Development - Trainings provided on site during our teachers' planning time on various topics such as Digital Citizenship, Google Apps for Education, Seesaw, Community Building, and iPads.
- Coaching/Mentoring with Swivl - Instructional specialists or eMINTS Trainers will set up coaching conversations with teachers. Teachers can record a lesson using the Swivl robot and submit it to their coach or mentor via Torsh. The coach or mentor provides feedback throughout the recording via voice recorded comments or typed comments. The teacher views the feedback, and a reflecting conversation is scheduled. Teachers can set goals to improve instruction through this process.
- Online Learning - Four and six week online courses offered for teachers to complete whenever and wherever is most convenient. Example course titles: Google Educator Certification, Introduction to Moodle, Google Drive, Getting Started with Chromebooks, Moodle Tools, Using Project Based Lessons in the Classroom, and Building Your PLN.
- Gulf Regional Innovative Teaching Conference or GRITC - Four day conference involving networking and over 6000 hours of professional learning for over 500 educators. GRITC 2017 will be our 10th Anniversary! With food trucks, exciting keynote presenters, and prizes, GRITC 2017 will be the best yet! Mark your calendar for July 24-27th!
