Savvy Students
March Newsletter for Norwood/Holden Library
Transitioning
March was a month of transitioning as we finish up our projects and begin our Internet Safety lessons.
Biography Riddle by Cotton Candy Cake
Biography Riddles with Stupeflix
Stupeflix is a free online video creation tool that works great with the chromebooks. Fourth grade students worked in groups and researched famous people, then created videos with clues to present their biography riddles. Here is the link to the library page where the rest of the completed riddles reside.
Mindmaps with Bubblus
Third Grade students compared two Trickster Tales using Bubbl.us, a website that allows you to create and share visual organizers. They then paired up and compared and contrasted topics of their choosing.
Bird Watching
Primary classes have been reading books about Eagles, and Hawks while we keep an eye on several live webcams.
- Hanover, PA Eagles
- Mr. President and First Lady in Washington, D.C.
I-Safe and Commonsense Media.org
Internet safety lessons are one of the most important subjects taught in Warwick elementary school libraries. Students learn about many noteworthy topics including, Cyberbullying, Personal Safety online, Digital Footprints, Cyber Security and Malware.
MyCreate Stop Motion Video
Connor
Second grade students are almost finished with their MyCreate videos on nonfiction text. The students created stop motion video to share facts they learned from reading. The full set of videos is up on my library page.
Tara Castro, Library Media Specialist
I was able to attend a recent workshop sponsored by SLRI on Video Programs in Library. I learned about some great resources and hope to be able to incorporate some of the ideas shared. Narragansett Middle School has an enviable Green Room with video camera equipment and lighting.
