Welcome Back

The first week is complete and what a beautiful week it was! We were so excited to see all the smiling faces as students arrived for their first week of school. As expected everyone is falling into a new routine, and getting back into the school groove. Thank you to all of our wonderful families for respecting the drop off times, arriving on the playscape for your child's schedule, packing healthy, nutritional and waste free lunches, and preparing your child for the school day! It has been smooth sailing!

This week in Learning Labs

The learning labs were full of life, and exploration as students moved from workshops, activities, and projects eager to see what discoveries could be made! An introduction to Frida Kahlo in the art studio inspired many students to design, and sketch colorful flowers. Artists are looking forward to making flower headbands inspired by Frida in the upcoming weeks. The story Mouse Paint inspired students during drama workshops to act like mischievous mice experimenting with color mixing, color recognition, colors in Spanish, and acting skills! In writing workshops students have been sketching neighborhood maps, and penning All About Me books. It seems that writing has become a new interest for many students! The play dough outdoors sparked our senses with lavender, lemongrass and rosemary scents and textures!

Next week we look forward to introducing the artist Paul Klee and creating Self Portraits with an abstract twist! We will continue working in learning labs with teachers observing readiness skills as we explore math, literacy, social and science concepts!

Reggio Emilia Through the Eyes Of The Children!

The Reggio Emilia philosophy places so much emphasis on the importance of the physical learning environment that it is often referred to as the "third teacher." In the spirit of inspiration and excitement for the new school year, and in the knowledge that there is always room for growth and change, here is a virtual tour of our sacred space through the eyes of the children - our learning labs, our third teacher.

We hope you will enjoy each blog showcasing pictures of the students learning, investigating, exploring and developing skills throughout the learning environments know as the learning labs.

Welcome New Families

We are so inspired by our new students beginning school for the first time. Supporting students through this time as professionals is an important part of Early Childhood Education. We are working with families to create a schedule and routine for students who experience separation. Thank you for understanding when the teaching team is devoted to working with our new students. In the past week we have seen progress as students begin to understand the daily rhythm, and develop relationships with peers and the teaching team!

The Benefits of Music Workshops

The Benefits of Music Workshops

Music ignites all areas of child development: intellectual, social and emotional, motor, language, and overall literacy. It helps the body and the mind work together. Exposing children to music during early development helps them learn the sounds and meanings of words. Dancing to music helps children build motor skills while allowing them to practice self-expression. For children and adults, music helps strengthen memory skills.

In addition to the other benefits of music, it also provides us with joy. Just think about listening to a good song on the car radio with the window down on a beautiful day. That's joy

Let's celebrate the joy of music and dancing!
