All About Flexible Seating
Creating a student centered classroom
What is flexible seating?
Having different seating options in the classroom creates a student-centered classroom and environment where the students make the choices for themselves. Seating options include wobble stools for students who still choose to sit at a desk or table. Wobble stools allows for movement in the chair while keeping the student's core engaged. Back patters are available for those students who want to take a break from a traditional table or desk. These comfortable seats allow for the student to relax and work while reclined back generally using a clipboard to complete assignments (if necessary). Back patters may also be kept flat on the floor for the student to lay on while reading or completing work. Students may also choose to use pillows for their comfort while they relax in the classroom to complete work. Other various stools are also an option for the students to choose as they come into the classroom ready to learn each day. Students also have the choice of yoga balls in the classroom. Yoga balls allow for the students to move around safely while also keeping their core engaged.
Does a child have to choose a seat? NO! If the student is more comfortable standing to do their work at a table or desk, they do not have to be in a seat!
The number one priority other than the students being comfortable while they are learning is SAFETY. While using all of the seating options in the classroom, students are reminded to be safe and use the seating as it is designed to be used.
I am always looking for new and exciting seating options to add to our classroom. Throughout the school year I will be creating Donors Choose projects that parents are more than welcome to contribute to.
