親愛的家長您好：

This week in the high school our Student Council is busily preparing the final details of their Homecoming Event, which is scheduled for next Friday evening, September 18. It promises to be a fun filled evening for the students and we hope to see everyone there! Likewise, our athletes in both Volleyball and Soccer are happy to have practices up and running and are looking forward to scrimmages and tournaments with other schools here in Taiwan this year. Within the next few weeks, please look for information from our Diploma Program Coordinator on how to register for IB Exams. There are important deadlines to follow for our students to register successfully.

本週高中學生會正忙於準備開學舞會的最終細節，舞會計劃於9月18日下星期五晚上進行。對於學生來說，這將是一個充滿樂趣的夜晚，我們期待在晚會見到大家！同樣，我們的排球和足球運動員都非常高興能開始練習，並期待今年與台灣其他學校的比賽。在接下來的幾週內，請從我們的IB主任那裡獲取報名IB考試的相關資訊，學生們必須在截止日期前完成報名。

The KAS PTA is excited to share some great news with you. The KAS PTA now has its own official line account. In addition to getting the school information in real time, parents will also have quick access to school website for information such as school calendar, newsletter, and school events information. Parents are still welcome to leave messages at any time if you have any questions or concerns. Effective from today onwards, the current PTA line group will no longer have any updates on school information and will be closed by September 30th, 2020. Our Constructive Communication Policy is now available in both English and Mandarin. We believe that good communication is important for building mutual trust, and that can ultimately provide an advantage for students.

College applications are underway for the 69 seniors in the Class of 2021! Over the next few months, students will be working on different parts of their college applications. They put in a tremendous amount of work!

69名的準畢業生們開始申請大學的步驟了！接下來的幾個月，他們會持續進行申請的各步驟，這段時間他們已經在申請的事務上投入了大量精力！

In the U.S., applications are reviewed ‘holistically’ which means that students are evaluated on many criteria including their grades, personal essays, teacher recommendations, counselor recommendation letter, SAT or ACT scores (many are test-optional this year), rigor of the curriculum, and extracurricular activities. KAS students are working hard to highlight different experiences and skills, and they are all very impressive! Upcoming deadlines: November 1 - 15 for most Early Decision and Early Action schools.

在美國，大學會對申請書進行“全面的”審查，這表示校方會根據許多標準對學生進行評估，包括他們的成績，個人自傳，老師推薦信，大學輔導推薦信，SAT或ACT分數（今年很多考試是自由選擇的），以及課程和課外活動。KAS的學生正在努力累積各種不同的經歷和技能，他們讓大家印象深刻！即將到來的截止日期：多數的Early Decision 和 Early Action 學校都在11月1-15日之間截止。

For UK applications, students are asked to include 1 teacher recommender and to write an academically-focused personal statement. UK schools have entry requirements that typically include predicted grades for the IB Diploma and the iELTS test of English proficiency. Several European countries have similar admissions criteria. Upcoming deadline: October 15 for Oxford, Cambridge and pre-professional programs (Medicine, Veterinary, Dentistry).

英國各大學的申請，學生需準備一封老師推薦信，一篇學術相關的自我介紹文章，英國大學同時偠要求IB文憑的預測成績及雅思成績，部份歐洲大學也有類似的錄取標準。即將到來的截止日有：10月15日的Oxford, Cambridge 和部份專業預修（如：醫科，獸醫，牙醫等）。

Canada applications will be due as early as November 7 for international students choosing schools in Ontario, and as late as January 15 for schools such as University of British Columbia in other provinces. Requirements vary from school to school but often include prerequisite courses, short response essays or brief, and recorded video interviews in addition to a test of English proficiency.

加拿大的國際學生申請期限則看省份各有不同，如Ontario就在11月7日，而UBC或其它地方則在1月15日。大學的要求也不盡相同，除了英文基本要求外，有可能包括預修課程，個人簡介或自傳，甚至錄製面試影片等。

Australia, New Zealand and many schools in Asia are on a different timeline so those students will not be actively sending in applications until much later in the year. We look forward to working closely with those students in spring!

The priority for all our KAS students is to focus on their academics and courses while finding a balance with their clubs, sports and activities outside of school. Data from a NACAC survey of colleges reporting which factors are most important in admission found that universities value grades in college prep classes the most, followed by grades and academic performance overall in high school.
