Important Notes
- If your child will go home a different way than usual, you will need to write a note. If I do not have a note saying they will go home a different way, I will send them home their normal way. Please do not Dojo message to tell me. I do not check my messages on Dojo until after school.
- Please, please make sure your child has a supply of pencils, paper, and a dry erase marker (black works best).
- Remember, agendas should be signed by a parent each night. They are checked every morning.
- Please remember, our day starts at 7:30. Students switch classes at 7:45. Every minute of our day is precious. Thank you.
- If you need to contact me, please use email. It is not easy to see that there is a dojo message. In addition, students sometimes see who the messages are from as dojo is displayed on the Smartboard at all times. Thank you.
- If you have not signed up for parent/teacher conferences in November, please check your email for a sign up genius notification.
Language Arts Notes
Next week, we will read nonfictional selections to focus on summarizing and fact and opinion.
The next two weeks in Writer's Workshop will be Paragraph Boot Camp weeks. We will break down every aspect of paragraph writing. Our goal is to be able to create solid, well organized paragraphs fluently. This will help us tremendously as we write multi-paragraph pieces in a variety of genres this year. It will be tough, but I am confident our paragraph soldiers can do it!
Social Studies Notes
We are coming to an end of our unit on regions of North Carolina. We will soon transition to our next unit, Settlements and Colonies of North Carolina. Yes, this is a history buff's dream. For this unit, we will discuss early North Carolinians, the influence of European exploration on the area, and the settlement of North Carolina. Of course, no study of early North Carolina colonization would be complete without a mention of pirating and Blackbeard. Be prepared for some pretty interesting conversations at the dinner table.
