Failure
Charlie and I were watching Meet the Robinson's the other day and this part came on and it got me thinking. How are we teaching our students to deal with failure? In the past we talked a lot, and made big changes, towards not setting the bar low for our students or accepting subpar work because of their home life or economic status. We have done a great job of moving away from this, but now that our expectations are high, how are we teaching our students to deal with situations when they don't meet those expectations? Failure is a part of life and learning how to deal with it is a true sign of growth. In your individual conferences with students either before or after MAP testing have conversations with them about what they're going to do if they don't meet their goal. Ask them how they usually deal with failure and give them some tips if they need.
Please don't take this message as negative, I know that our students are going to grow on MAP, because you all have put in the work, but they will fail at something at some point and it's our job to be there and catch them and remind them to keep moving forward!
This is the work of a true PLC, learning from each other!
