BV Femineer Information
Cal Poly Pomona College of Engineering is excited to start a new cohort of Femineers this 2021-2022 academic year. The Femineer Program was created to empower K-12 female students to develop the skills and confidence needed to pursue majors and careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields. It has expanded to include other under-represented individuals in these fields. If you are interested in joining the program and have the qualifications, please fill out this application, scan it and return it to the Femineer Program advisor Karen Stohlmann at khenderson@bluevalleyk12.org.

There are postcards with this information available in the library.

Johnson County Youth Court
Do you like to debate? Are you interested in a law career? Do you need community service hours? Johnson County Youth Court might be a good fit for you! What is youth court? Youth Court is a voluntary alternative to the formal juvenile justice system in which juvenile offenders are sentenced by their peers. The goal of Youth Court is to reduce the number of youth entering the court system by providing early intervention to youth who are truant or commit first time minor offenses. Youth volunteers participate in the roles of: prosecuting and defense attorneys, judges, jury members, and bailiffs. If that sounds like a fun thing to do, stop by the Police Office and talk to Officer Stock or Officer Harrison to get signed up!
Creating the best possible Blue Valley high school experience
Blue Valley has a unique opportunity this year to study the high school experience with the goal of creating a comprehensive experience that leads to increased student personalization and ownership of learning.
The High School Study Committee, made up of high school teachers and administrators across the district, will study high school programming and spend time learning more about what we want for our students. Committee members from Blue Valley West include Katie Bonnema, Anna Dunn, Courtney Grimaldi, Paige Lankford and Aimee Price.
The study committee solicited student focus group feedback to help identify the five action teams which will meet regularly over the next two months:
Graduation requirements: Investigate what Blue Valley requires of its graduates and make any recommendations related to graduation requirements.
Defining high school success: Identify some accountability measures in our redesign process.
Real-World Learning Opportunities: Work closely with those leading the BV Edge work and establish a plan to deliver real-world learning opportunities to all students.
Strategically Agile High School System: Make recommendations that inject more flexibility and agility into high school programming and the high school experience.
Relevant & Authentic Instruction: Make recommendations related to instructional strategies, feedback/assessment policies and grading.
As high school families, your insight and feedback are valuable. Throughout the study, there will be opportunities for all high school students, staff members and families to offer feedback. Stay tuned for more information about the study and feedback opportunities later this semester.
