A Message from your Principals
Greetings CB Families,
We believe our children’s safety is a collaborative between home, schools, law enforcement, and the community. Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our learning community safe. This Thursday, September 29th, Crested Butte Community School will be conducting an Off-Site Evacuation Drill. Because of COVID, this drill has not been held in the last two years.
What is it?
An off-site evacuation drill is a safety protocol we use when the building is not a safe or appropriate fit for instruction. For example, there was a sewage leak one year, and the school had to be evacuated.
Why do we practice?
Our number one priority is student and staff safety. We take this responsibility very seriously and believe that empowering students through education and practice is critical.. An off-site evacuation of the entire building includes many moving parts and logistical hurdles. We will only be able to truly assess our capabilities through practice.
When is this happening?
Thursday, September 29th, at 2:00 pm.
What we need from you:
On Thursday, September 29th, please refrain from picking up your student(s) between 1:50pm and 3:15pm. Our staff are trained to not release students during an off-site evacuation, whether it is a drill or a live event.
If your student(s) has an appointment scheduled for this time frame, please check your child out prior to 1:50pm.
Sally Hensley, CBES Principal
Kathryn Long, CBES Assistant Principal

Our performance is Thursday, October 6 at 6pm.
