The Three branches of Goverment

The Government

The government is compared to a three legged stool because of it's three branches of government. Each branch in the government are equally crucial to the survival of our constitution.

The Supreme Court

The current justices are : Sonia Sotomayor, Stephen G. Breyer, Samuel A. Alito, and Elena Kagan,Clarence Thomas,Antonin Scalia, Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Anthony Kennedy, andRuth Bader Ginsburg

Their term is for life until retirement and their salary ranges from $208,100-$217,400.

Two famous cases are the Miranda vs Arizona case and the Brown vs Board of Education case.

The Miranda case was about before an interrogation with the police they must give the defendant the choice to speak to an attorney and any thing said or admitted during the interrogation is admissible to court.

Brown vs Board of Education the court ruled that segregated schools are to be desegregated.

The Executive Branch

In order to become the president you have to be older than 35 and you have to have been born in the U.S.A. The presidents salary is $400,000 a year and one term can last up to 4 years. The job of the vice president is to advise and take the president place if something were to happen to him. The president's chart line of succession is the vice president, the speaker of the house, secretary of state, secretary of treasury, secretary of defense, attorney general, secretary of the interior, secretary of agriculture, secretary of commence, and secretary of labor. The president's cabinet consist of Vice President, Department of State, Department of the Treasury, Department of Defense, Department of Justice, Department of the Interior, Department of Agriculture, Department of Commerce.

The Legislative Branch

The legislative Branch consist of two places, the senate and the house of

representatives. The senate is where two senators go to congress to represent their state. The salary for each senator is $193,400 and the qualifications are that you have to be older than 30. Their term length is 4 years but the house of

representatives is like the senate. The higher the population in the state, the more representatives it can send. The term for a representative is 4 years and their salary is $235,000 a year.
