At Carthage on February 23, the Music Makers won Class 4 and finished 1st runner-up in finals. Forefront finished 3rd in the Class 3 division which included varsity groups from schools not that smaller that HHS.
Then, in early March, the Music Makers traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to compete at the Jefferson High Show Choir Festival. The Music Makers made finals and finished 3rd runner-up.
The HHS show choirs also hosted an invitational on Feb. 9 where both choirs provided exhibition performances.
The HHS show choirs are under the direction of Kip Mathew.
Robotics season underway
The Harrisonville High School robotics team traveled to Little Rock, Arkansas to compete in the FIRST Robotics Rock City Regional March 7-9.
Each year, high school students from across the country compete in the FIRST Robotics challenge at regional competitions in hopes of qualifying for the world competition. The teams receive information on the year’s challenge during a video broadcast in early January and then have six weeks to design and build a robot to compete. This year’s challenge is called Destination: Deep Space honoring the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
After preliminary competition on Friday and Saturday morning, the HHS team was selected to the 7th seed alliance for the finals. The team’s alliance lost in the quarterfinals to end their competition in Little Rock.
The HHS team will head to Sedalia for the Central States Regional on April 6-7.
Art club hosts charity event
The Harrisonville High School Art Club hosted the third annual Cupcakes and Canvas event on March 12. The event includes a painting lesson with participants taking home a self-created piece of art. They also enjoy cupcakes following their lesson.
