MAVERICK VALUES

From Stewardship To Zeal

Religion Commissioner Araceli R.'s Take On Stewardship

“The LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.” (Genesis 2:15) This quote from Genesis Chapter 2, Verse 15 explains our role as Stewards of God’s Earth.

Stewardship is the job of protecting and being responsible for something. We may take on the responsibility to take care of someone or something. Stewardship is how we take care of everything God has given to us. God has given us a lot in our lives. He has given us life. He has given us our families with mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers, or others who care for us. God has also given us a great world to live in and friends to share it with.

To show stewardship you must be eager and responsible enough to take on the obligations entrusted to you. So if a friend asks you to take care of his or her possessions, you should be responsible in taking very good care of it. One of the most important ways to show stewardship is by taking care of our Earth that God has created for us. This includes the land, the oceans, rivers, lakes, and the air that we breath. When we protect our water we can preserve water to use and take care of God’s creatures, giving us an opportunity to better understand them. We must also protect our trees, especially in the Rainforest, because they create oxygen and they are homes for thousands of animals. By becoming good stewards of our Earth, we can protect our land, water, and air from pollution.

Disciples of Christ show stewardship by making a conscious decision to follow Jesus, no matter what the cost. Let’s all grow to become more faithful disciples of Christ as we enter the final month of our school year. Thank you and have a blessed day.

MAVERICK ZEAL

The article below has a great take on our Maverick Value of ZEAL, including this statement: "Zeal begets zeal. We should not be fearful of the virtue of zeal. It springs from love and does not exclude moderation. It fires our passion to a flame and enables us to be more effective, productive, and alive."
