Principal's Post
Longer days are ahead, and I mean that as a good thing. We "spring forward" this weekend, which does involve losing an hour of sleep, but the benefit of more daylight hours is something about which I think our students and community are excited. "Springing forward" inches us closer to actual spring, once the month of March can move away from vacillating between being mild and sunny one day and chilly and damp the next. Moods also perk up as with more daylight (this is research-based!), and we savor the lower likelihood of having to hold indoor recess (let's just keep those spring showers in check!).
Enjoy the weekend as well as the longer days that will arrive on Sunday and beyond!

From the Desk of Mr. Murtha
Last Thursday, March 3, many of our students dressed to represent their respective culture(s), as one of our Read Across America spirit days involved dressing to represent your culture as a celebration of how books can bring attention to, inform us about, and expose us to different cultures, cultural practices, and diverse characters. I think it was my favorite spirit day of the week! So many of our students participated, whether they wore a German soccer jersey to represent their German heritage, a sweatshirt with an "Africa" logo to celebrate their continental origins, or even students who wore elaborate dresses or outfits that were very exclusive to their cultural roots. I want our students, as well as the adults at Mill Creek, to be proud of their cultural roots and to share them with one another. It truly warmed my heart to see so many who felt so good about sharing "this is part of who I am am" with our greater community! It was simply wonderful, and it provided others in the building, including me, with some insight into students and staff we may not have know prior to them literally showing off those cultural roots.
Wishing you an incredible Friday and weekend, Mill Creek!

Assistant Principal
