Fly Eagles Fly!
Dear OVE Families,
I’m hopeful that we are moving beyond the inclement weather that caused the delays and closings during the month of January. I want to thank all parents and guardians for helping their student(s) complete the eLearning assignments. As a parent and educator, I know the unique challenges that come from altering the daily routines for children and I am so hopeful that February can be that month to get us all back on track.
I do want to highlight that students really stepped up and were present when school was in session with a 96% attendance rate during January. That is fantastic, and is a trend that I am hopeful we can continue as we move into February. We really do appreciate it when students are present, on-time and ready to learn and have fun!
Speaking of fun, the PTO Read-A-Thon is always the big highlight of the month. This is a time where students are working hard to secure online donations and tracking their reading minutes. They will be able to earn tickets that they can redeem at the school carnival on March 2nd. Our school-wide reading/ pajama day will take place on February 15th, and logs are due back to school the Tuesday after we return from President’s Day weekend.
Finally, students will be wrapping up NWEA math and reading assessments this week. As soon as the district-wide window closes, we plan to send those reports home so you can see a snapshot of your child’s growth and achievement toward academic goals.
Thank you for your continued support and active involvement in your student’s education. As always, if you have questions, suggestions or feedback, please feel free to reach out directly to me either by phone (574-825-5405) or email (martink@mcsin-k12.org).

February 2024
It seems Winter has arrived and even though it is cold outside, we are in one of the busiest times of the year at OVE!
Nurse Notes
Important Reminders:
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Brushing teeth twice a day helps prevent cavities. Cavities are preventable and can lead to dental pain, infections, and difficulty eating. According to the CDC, “Children who have poor oral health often miss more school and receive lower grades than children who don’t."
Please make sure students are dressed appropriately. Students should have coats, hats, and gloves with them on a daily basis.
Please pack a change of clothes with students. Accidents happen, especially with the wet weather we’ve been having.
We are in need of boys and girls pants (sizes 5-9). If you have any gently used clothes that you would like to donate, we’d appreciate it!

Student Meal Accounts
OVE parents, did you know that you can easily deposit money into your student’s meal account? When you register with the Linq Connect website, you can make deposits, set up recurring deposits, OR just use the website to monitor what your child is purchasing in the OVE cafeteria. You can also set up notifications to let you know when your child’s balance is low. In addition, you can apply for free or reduced meals on the same website at any time during the school year. Go to linqconnect.com from any computer, tablet or mobile device and create a free account. There is also a mobile app available in the Google Play Store and Apple Store. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Gini Bennett, Bookkeeper, at 574-825-5094.
