Samantha's Design Of The Future
The Most Energy Efficient House On The Block
A,1 My Garden
This house is located in the temperate deciduous forest in Mississauga. I have a lovely flower garden at the side of this house it contains Canada Anemone, Tuberous Vetchling and Oswego tea flower. I chose these few flowers because they are native to temperate deciduous forests in Ontario and they are very pretty.
Canada Anemone Flower
Grows in May till the summer, can grow up to 60 centimeters. This flower is native to Ontario.
Tuberous Vetchling Flower
Blooms in the summer and is native to Ontario. This flower is a great producer of pollen
Oswego Tea Flower
Blooms in the summer and is native to Ontario. Is a beautiful red color and is unique.
Vegetable Garden A,2
My vegetable garden is going to be seasonal so, it will only grow during the spring and summer . Things I will contain in my vegetable garden are asparagus, cucumbers, celery and lastly potatoes. The growing span will be from June to December. Since I'm growing these outside I will have to use a very light pesticide because I don't want to contaminate the food. Also I will have to use a natural fertilizers because synthetic has to many drawbacks to the ecosystem. Like the soil will become to dependable to the synthetic fertilizer also they become susceptible to erosion. Lastly since I live in a biodiversity area the synthetic fertilizer will harm the water more then natural. Therefore I use a natural fertilizer.
My Transportation A,3
In my driveway I will have a 2015 Nissan LEAF®. I personally like this car because it is 100% electric and since I've won the lottery and have invested and became a billionaire I don't mind spending a bit more on my electric bill. I prefer this car because it is eco-friendly and i will not cause any pollution. Personally I think everyone should invest in an electric car.
Waste Management A,4
My waste management is very efficient I will have recycling for papers plastics and glass. Also i will have an organics bin that will be a help to fertilize my vegetable garden. There will be no such thing as garbage in my house. Everything will be reused and reduced and recycle because it will help with my carbon footprint and therefore will help the environment.
My Species A,5
My family and I are going to adopt the River Hippopotamus from the Toronto Zoo. This animal is the second largest animal in the world besides the elephant. They are being hunted for their meat and their teeth. They can weight from 1000-4500kg and can grow up to 135cm. We adopted this animal because it is is a very cute and a very interesting animal.
Chemical House B,1
One of the three very bad chemicals I could find in my house is Radon. This chemical is odorless and radioactive. This chemical seeps into your house threw the ground, this chemical is the second leading cause of lung cancer. My second chemical Bisphenol A (BPA) and Phthalat. BPA and phthalates are additives in plastics; BPA creates a rigid plastic and phthalates make plastic more flexible. This chemical shows low testosterone levels and early puberty in girls. This chemical can be found in some baby bottles look for the ones that are BPA free. The last chemical that could be in my house is Formaldehyde. This chemical can have allergy like reactions like watery, burning eyes and throats, stuffy noses, and skin rashes. It can also have a respiratory reactions like nausea, headache and fatigue. This chemical is in a lot of cosmetics and also is in some types of baby wipes.
Radon
This is pure Radon. If Radon seeps into your house it can slowly kill you and can cause lung cancer
BPA
Always look for BPA free symbols because it can save yourself from toxic plastics.
Formaldehyde
This is Formaldehyde is a very dangerous chemical and can and will kill you if its in its pure form.
My Element B,2,3,4
The element I chose to show to you is Radon. Radon is an element so it is only made up of that one thing. Below is a Bohr Rutherford model. Radon is in group 18 period 6 and is considered a noble gas and is also a non-metal.This gas is also very radioactive.

My Energy Source C,1
My sustainable source of energy is solar power, I chose this because there will always be a sun. If there weren't a sun we wouldn't be alive and I find it more sustainable then wind power.
Physical Structures C,2
Some physical structures that would improve my house are big windows because I can let natural light in instead of using artificial light that would cost money. We can have a well insulated house so then we won't pay as much for heating in the winter. Also will keep a lot of blankets so that we can keep warm.
Energy C,3
All my appliances in my house will be by Energy Star. I chose this because it uses less energy for everything. The main appliances I want is a heat pump or central air because that costs the most and Energy Star is 20% more efficient and will cost less. A clothes dryer is next on the list using 4,000 watts per hour. So Energy Star will reduce that.
Light Bulb C,4
The electricity used over the lifetime of a single incandescent bulb costs 5 to 10 times the original purchase price of the bulb itself.
Light Emitting Diode (LED) and Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) bulbs have revolutionized energy-efficient lighting. The CFL light bulb is a better version of a fluorescent light bulb. It is very energy efficient.
Space 4
The invention I'm choosing is the telescope.I chose this because I love looking at the constellations like Orion's Belt or The Big Dipper. The telescope is one of humankind's most important inventions. The simple device that made far away things look near gave observers a new perspective. When curious men pointed the spyglass toward the sky, our view of Earth and our place in the universe changed forever.
