CALKIDS - California Kids Investments and Development Savings Program

The California Kids Investment and Development Savings Program (CalKIDS) is a taxpayer-funded scholarship program designed to help kids start saving for college from the day they're born. Every child born in California on or after July 1 of this year will be automatically enrolled in CalKIDS, and can receive $100 in free deposits by registering in the online portal. For older children, CalKIDS will automatically grant $500 to all eligible low-income students in grades 1-12, plus up to an additional $1,000 for those in foster care or experiencing homelessness.

There are numerous organizations who provide valuable assistance and resources to military families. Each week, I will highlight one such organization.

Courage to Call, www.courage2call.org

Courage to Call dedicated to improving mental wellness for active duty military personnel, veterans, reservists, guard members, and their families via countrywide outreach and education, a 24/7 peer line, as well as individual short-term, solution focused prevention-oriented plans. This program is led by veterans and their family members. They even offer an optional deeper level of care with case management and can assign a veteran peer navigator to your case to help you navigate the resources and will advocate on your behalf.
