East Middle School
Parent Newsletter: August 23rd
A Note From the Principal
Dear East Middle School Students, Parents, and Guardians:
What a fantastic first "official" day it has been. I know that we have been talking about and preparing for this day for a very long time. It was great to see the smiling faces of new and returning students to EMS.
Here are a few student quotes heard throughout the day:
"I am so glad to be back to see my teachers and friends."
"There are so many choices at lunch."
"It has been awesome!"
Yes, it is awesome indeed, and all is right in the world.
Important Dates:
- Curriculum Night: Thursday, August 31st (schedule is listed below)
Our goal is to send you a weekly newsletter of the happenings here at EMS. These newsletters should be hitting your inboxes on either Wednesdays or Thursdays. In addition, the newsletters will also be added to our website in case you want to review a past newsletter.
Again, we look forward to partnering with you as we embark on this middle school journey together!
Sincerely,
Katie Campbell

Welcome to EMS! Morning and Afternoon Procedures
We will begin to welcome students into the building starting at 7:10 AM.
- When 8th and 7th grade enter, they be ushered into the gym. 8th grade will sit on one side of the gym, and 7th grade will sit on the other. Teachers are in the gym to help supervise and dismiss students.
- When 6th grade students enter, Team 6A will be ushered to the auxiliary gym, while Team 6B will be ushered to the carpeted area in the pod. Students are supervised in their respective areas.
- Students who want breakfast will report to the cafeteria.
- There are teacher supervisors in the hallways to help direct traffic.
- If a student receives a pass from the teacher to visit in the morning, he/ she will be able to report directly to their teacher once entering the building.
- Students also have access to the library both before and after school.
Our first bell rings at 7:25, and students are in a staggered dismissal to ensure that hallways are relatively clear. This will give students 10 minutes of time to get to their lockers, unpack, use the restroom and then report to their first hour by 7:35AM.
For being the first time through this process, our EMS students did an excellent job today! Keep up the great work!
Fall Sports Practices Have Started!
In addition, student's must have a current physical in order to practice. Students (grades 7-12) planning to participate in athletics for the 2017-2018 school year must have a physical on file dated on or after Feb. 1, 2017: Physical form . This form MUST be on file BEFORE you will be allowed to practice or participate with any Raymore-Peculiar athletic team. If you have any questions please call Mrs. Stacy Johnson at 388-4003.

Lunch Times
All students did an amazing job today of following directions and being respectful. As we work through the next few days, and get students used to their lunch times and procedures, we are ensuring that they have plenty of time to eat. We do not want any EMS student to go hungry. All three administrators are at lunch, especially during the start of the year, so that we can reinforce the great job students are doing, as well as monitor the lunch times.
If your student has their lunch money, please encourage them to drop it off in the morning during breakfast.
