The Observed Outcast

Kovu, the son of Zira, who is a supporter of Scar, was exiled from Simba's pride for being accused of a crime he did not perpetrate. He soon became an outcast from the other animals in exception of the hyenas and his mother.

The Scarlet Letter

Hester Prynne was considered the outcast in her society for committing adultery and living in isolation in the wilderness. Hester was unaware of her husband's survival, so it was unfair for her to be punished. The community even believed he was dead.

The unhappy culprit sustained herself as best a woman might, under the heavy weight of a thousand unrelenting eyes, all fastened upon her, and concentrated at her bosom (Hawthorne 59).

Children, too young to comprehend wherefore this woman should be shut out from the sphere of human charities, would creep nigh enough to behold her plying her needle at the cottage- window , or standing at the doorway , or laboring in her little garden, or coming forth along the pathway that led downward; and discerning the scarlet letter on her breast, would scamper off with a strange, contagious fear (Hawthorne 84).

Children, who live in the Boston community yet not know of her isolation, sneakily watch Hester Prynne in her home tending to her activities. While looking upon her letter, they feel a horrifying spark.

Lonely as was Hester's situation, and without a friend on earth who dared to show himself, she, however, incurred no risk of want (Hawthorne 85).

Japanese, Italians, Germans Oh My!

Law versus justice takes action when President Roosevelt relocated Japanese, Italians, and Germans from their homes into camps during WWII. This location was allowed because it is a law to protect American citizens, but it was not just since it violated their American rights. However, during this time, these specific ethnicities were seen as outcasts.
